Checked the cam on my PF on Sunday. Couple of young bucks and a few doe are on the protein. That's it. When will they start back in full on it? I thought they would be hammering it by now but they are still more on the corn as my pens were empty and lots of tracks in those pens.

Not really. It'll probably be a couple more weeks.

Mine have never been off of it since I just started new feeders in October. I have seen several bucks eating it for the first time just in the last 2 weeks. But we just got some good rains in the last 3 weeks(3.6" total) and it has really greened up so I expect them to drop off.

Full herd was hammering it before November 1st or so. I am still not convinced they really like the Rack Plus from ADM I am feeding. Branden, what protein are you using if I may ask?

They used to use a lot of soyhulls in their feeds and they are not that palatable IMO. If they are still using them then and this is a different feed than what you were using it might be a problem.

STRM,

I am putting out a second PF this weekend. I am going to try Antlermax 16 or 20. There are several guys in the area that say the deer love it. I am going to mix corn in with the ADM on my big feeder to see if that helps and to move that protein so I can try a new feed there as well. Thanks for the info.

The guys at the feed store there in Breck swear buy it and I met a gentlemen there Sat who bought about 40 bags of the Rack Plus and he said his deer like it but I am just not getting the traffic I think should be in there.

Deer will eat the Rack Plus if they have been on it for a while no doubt. If they are on something different before you switch then they will not eat it very well IME. If they eat the Antler Max then mix Antler Max with it or the corn might help.

Our deer aren't even wanting corn...hunting-wise that was a problem all season..horn-wise, I hope the trend continues.

The deer on our place have taken the protein over the corn all this year, they eat the corn, but last. I opted to feed 16% since at the time water was getting scarce. Acorns where extremely heavy at or place too, so this may have had a big impact on deer eating the corn. They are more on the corn now, but still go for the protein 1st.

BTW, I mix mine 2 bags of corn to 3 bags of protein all in the one feeder ,(plus my wife dumps a lg. coffee can full every evening in the back yard so we can watch them.)

I just started feeding the deer in my yard. So far they only come at night, but we will see what good groceries does to that.

We have tryed lots of different kinds and the only kind they like is Antler Max is what we have feed for the last 4yrs, I want to try Lyssy and Eckel but they are to far for me to make the drive everytime to feed.

Put a water station in with the protein, helps alot deer just go back and forth between water and proein

I am so glad my food plots made it through the dry spell. I put up one protein feeder and have another ready to put up, but haven't had to use them. With this cold spell coming, I went ahead and put some corn in the gravity feeder to help them in case they need it. I don't plan on feeding protein unless the food plots dry up or something else happens to it. I also got a good bit of clover that came up in December with the rains. Life is good right now....

my does and dinks are wearing it out, about 20-25lbs a day already, but still no sign of my mature bucks.

i was happy to see that they had no problem plowing through 16% goat pellets too, little easier on the wallet.

How do you use the water tank setup? Do you just fill a large basin periodically?

To answer the OP.
Yes. They are coming in to Protein.
Purina brand.
Scatter a couple broke up bales of Alfafa; around the outside
edges. That should get them going.

Mine really like the green bag record rack stuff.
Typically hammer it feb to late october which is as horns are falling and the rut starts in the area.

I just put out protein last weekend and mixed with corn. No corn but lots of protein on the ground... Guess it will take a while..
