Every year we see people taking their first hunt and seems this year I have seen more than in the past. Makes me wonder do all the new hunters just like it for the killing or do they truely eat and enjoy their kill. I eat my birds but have seen plenty of people that go duck hunting purely for the thrill of shooting. Last year a place I hunted someone threw a 30 gallon bag of dead ducks out. My opinion has always been you shouldn't kill what you don't eat. Am I thinking wrong? Curious on others thoughts.

It's delicious. Eat most things I kill. I mean I'm not gonna eat that raccoon I catch in the yard. But yes for the most part, you kill it you eat it. I'd rather spend all day in the woods or on the lake trying to get my groceries than fight the 400lb rude people at the store.

I eat mine, now do I kill them just so that I can eat them? No, they are a lot of work to make them taste good, and some suck no matter how you cook them. The biggest reason I hunt them is because I love it, it's my favorite thing in the world to work a group of birds into the decoys. But none of my birds ever go to waste. If I want meat just to eat ill go kill a deer or a pig or catch a few fish. I hardly ever buy any meat at the store

I ( for all intents) started hunting ducks this season. I plan on eating every single one that I bring home. Hopefully I'll kill enough of 'em to find a receipe that I like.

I've duck hunted for 45 years and I hate the taste of ducks. I hunt them because if just love the hunt, seeing the scenery the God paints on the morning eastern sky, the comradery, and watching my dog retrieve. That being said I have never and will never waste a duck. I hunt with several people that love the taste of duck and I give them all of my kills.

I am new to duck hunting this season (past few weeks, actually) and plan on eating anything I kill. In addition to getting outdoors, I do it to re-hone my hunting skills in order to pass them on to my young children who already are wanting to be out with Daddy hunting. My desire is to teach them that they don't have to have money to eat, but that you can always find something to eat, if need be. I hope we never return to those days of the Great Depression, but if we do, I hope to be prepared and not to starve.
2 Chronicles 7:14 - 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Whats the difference between leaving a coyote and leaving a duck? When its all said and done duck is running me $30-$40 a lb. so it's definitely going on the table. I personally love the taste of game animals but some in my family don't. I was taught as a child, if it taste like chit then wrap bacon around it! I like quackaholic1's view...loves the sport, hates the meal, so he gives them to a friend. That's the kind of HB that I'm looking for!

Occasionally duck tastes ok to me, but for the most part if it's not a canvasback I don't want anything to do with it. For that reason I save it up all year and take it to a deer processor to make sausage. It's mixed 50% with pork, heavily seasoned, and then I eat the daylights out of it

As long as the ducks do not go to waste, it doesn't matter if a hunter eats duck or gives them away. I always take home the ducks I shoot because I love eating ducks. My hunting partner will maybe eat one or two ducks a year. He has a guy that takes all of the ducks that he shoots (Spoonies included ). It's a combination of the thrill of the chase and fooling ducks as well as table fare. If I did it strictly for the meat, I would probably take up deer hunting because the cost per pound would be more than I would like to know.

I personally like to watch the birds and dogs work.
It would definitely be better if the ducks were made out of white meat.

I'm new and got into it because I like eating duck and when I tagged along with a friend I thought it was the coolest thing seeing the birds work in and a good dog do his job. Of course I like the shooting but sometimes it's secondary. It's nice to be out in nature to clear the head

I was one of those guys who shot ducks and then gave them away till I had duck in a Chineese Rest. Their roast and B-B-Q duck is great. So a guy talked me in to trying teal on my own. Never again.
There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

I try to eat everything I shoot. So I typically dont hunt pests like racoons, etc. unless they are destroying my stuff. Those I dont eat. I like to cook as much as hunt so Ill experiment with things that others wont. Saturday I saw a half full garbage bag in the left turn lane of the road on the way back from the lake. It was torn open and full of ducks. They didnt look butchered to me at all. That bothers me a lot. If you wont eat it, find a dude at the ramp to give it to.

I do it for the hunt, not the meat. I eat all my ducks, but If I was hunting just to feed the family all the money I spent hunting would go a lot further at the grocery store.

I love to hunt but don't really like the taste of wild meat. I can eat it but would rather have steak!
I do spend additional money processing animals just to make sure they don't go to waste. Sausage is expensive but it is easy to give away.

Crossed my mind too. I grew up hunting just about all species and really enjoy ducks and geese in just about any manner they're cooked, always have, and also enjoy the action of the birds working a spread, the shoot and then the dogs retrieving.

i try not to waste the meat, but i don't like to eat ducks. I've cooked them, had a great taste, but that texture for me is gagging. Yuk. So, I clean them and stick them in the freezer. If anyone wants some duck meat, let me know, i have some you can have. But, I'm probably guilty of wasting a ringer or 2.
