So I just completed my CHL class today. I have an appt to do my prints Tuesday. So now I'm in search of a holster. I want an IWB holster. I've seen reviews on crossbreeds, white hat, and galcos. I have no clue how to choose a holster. Do.you just bite the bullet and buy each one till you find one you like or what? As now, when I get my license, I will be carrying a S&W M&P 9c

Try several what works for one may not work for you or me. Go to a gun show and there are always a ton of holster tables

Also for those that carry big guns, I have a springer XD 40 tactical. Would this be able.to be concealed during winter with a jacket or suit? If so what holster (own) are good owb concealable holsters?

You will probably end up with a couple of holsters that don't work before you find one that does. The really popular ones are really popular for a reason- Crossbreed, Comp-Tac, Galco.

You could probably conceal an XD Tactical but you probably won't enjoy the experience.

DM Bullard makes an excellent IWB holster.

Even OWB under a suit coat or jacket?

In my experience a suit coat really isn't a great concealment garment, just the few times I've tried to wear one owb. It's a more tailored garment and fits closer- if you just put one on strongside it will likely print.

Under a big coat like a Carhartt feed coat, probably not a big deal. I think you'd find life a lot easier just sticking with the M&P, but that's just my advice, don't let it dissuade you from trying.

Have you tried concealing weapons before, like just around the house or while working around your place? I usually carry my Kel Tec P11, but I alternate it with whatever mid size I've traded for (currently a Sig 228) at the moment. I don't have any problems concealing the mid size (Glock 19 range), but you definitely notice them more than a smaller gun. Sitting down, they tend to dig your ribs, and there's a somewhat constant worry (at least for me) about printing when I carry 5-6 o'clock.

I'd say get comfortable with that M&P out to 25 yds on silhouette targets and carry a full size mag as a reload if you want extra capacity.

Other than Mexican carrying my M&P while hinting, I have little to no experience carrying. Looks like I need to get.to trying holsters.

I never really have used a holster, other than using a pocket holster to cover the trigger on autos like Glocks, I've always just Mexican carried crossdraw. That's why I prefer DA/SA or DAO autos with heavy DA pulls.

However I don't recommend carrying that way. I do because it's what works for me, but you should always try to find a holster that is comfortable enough for you to use every day. It offers weapon retention and covers the trigger.

If I were going to "carry" I would get a Clipdraw for one of my Glocks.

Comp-tac has worked well for me. The Minutar is comfortable and adjustable.

A Pancake type holster holds large guns in close to the body. When you bend over or reach for something,
they print the gunbutt on larger guns. Carried a model 36/60 S&W in a Roy Baker Pancake Holster,
I forgot it was even there. Big difference in gun sizes though.
An improper holster with a large capacity magazine will be grip heavy and tend to flop against your side.
Proper HD Belt will mean a lot in the way a gun/holster will carry also.

Good luck on the quest for your perfect fit. As Biggaboy as you and I are, some carries just won't work.
Sorry, just the nature of the beast!

I carry OWB, and so do a couple of my buddies. We are running Galco leather OWB holsters, and if you wear them correctly you can conceal wearing a T-shirt. I OWB a G36, another guy OWB carries a fullsize Wilson Combat 1911 and you cant tell at all.

Edit to add pic, this is me wearing OWB G36 in a light t-shirt.

That.

I had a leather belt that wasn't tight enough, was letting the holster flop just a little bit away from my body. I picked up a nice webbed belt that I can cinch down nice and snug, now the holster is nice and snug against me 100%

To complicate matters, what do you do the majority of the time? Carry while standing is much different than while wrapping seat belts around you and driving or sitting in a sales meeting when you may not be able to unbutton your suit/jacket.
