Know I don't post much. I really enjoy reading everyone's posts and looking at pics. A while back I asked opinions on Winchester sx3 and Browning Maxus. I decided on the Maxus sending my 30 year old Rem 1100 into semi- retirement. Went with the 3 inch chamber as I could never see needing to shoot a 3.5 inch shell. Bought it from Northen Firearms off of Gunbroker just before the end of the year. So far it's been a great gun.

It's been a very slow duck season for my son and I. We have only shot about a third as many ducks as we shot last year. However, today was fantastic. At LST it was still very dark with the overcast skies and we could hear a single hen returning our calls from a distance. 5 minutes later we see our first group. Wigeon cupped into the dekes. I took a drake while my son dropped a double with his 20 gauge. While we were getting the dog on the wigeon, we had flocks of gadwall, teal, and more wigeon work the decoys. I picked out a pintail and it almost landed in the blind with us. After 20 minutes from the first shot fired, we each needed 1 more to finish. We decided to wait for mallards and we were rewarded a few minutes later as we each splashed a drake. We unloaded our guns 30 minutes after LST and started shooting video of the birds as they continued to work. We were picking up emptys and putting the birds on the strap when my son and I both saw the band on the pintail drake I shot. We whooped and hollered for a couple of minutes. I wish he would have shot it though. Rule at my lease is if you shoot a banded bird you have to dunk your bare butt in the water. It was cold this morning! This was my 4th band in 25 years of hunting. Final tally: 4 wigeon drakes; 3 gadwall drakes and 1 hen; 1 green wing drake; 2 mallard drakes; 1 BANDED pintail drake. Pics below:

Nice shootin'.

I like those days when I can get the ducks out of the way early so I can enjoy the scenery and my coffee.

Hope your next hunt goes just as well!
