I know it's not a hunting question but I wanted to put it out here because I generally get good info here. I am wanting to head down to the coast on our spring break and do some camping and fishing.can any of you guys suggest a good rv park in the port aransas area or any other place you would consider good for either fishing or camping?...I am not totally set on port A but really like it...our spring break is early this year so I think I will miss the teenage boppers.....any help will be greatly appreciated!

You can stay in Aransas Pass a lot cheaper than anywhere in PA!

I would stay in Rockport way before I would stay in Aransas Pass or Port A. Port A on Spring Break will be a madhouse if the weather is good. Somewhere in the US there will colleges on Spring Break.

Don't know what kind of camping you are wanting to do. There is a camp ground between the South Jetty and the Pier. There is also a camp ground about 5 miles South of town towards Corpus. Both of these have full hookups. If you want to get away and rough it head to PINS (Padre island National Seashore) No hookup just camp on the beach. You will have it seems like 80 miles of beach to camp on. Just be careful because PINS can hold lots of suprises!!! Hope this helps!

I've kept an RV in Port A for the last decade. If you want convenient access to the Gulf/beach and not the bay then stay in Port A. If you don't care then stay in Aransas Pass or Rockport.

Spring Break can get crowded in Port A. However, you can escape the crowds by traveling 30 min. away to Padre Island National Seashore (PINS). You'll need 4x4 and take anything you need with you. It's isolated.

I stay at Pioneer RV Resort. Two pools, hot tub, laundry facilities, multiple shower houses/rest rooms, store and a boardwalk to the beach.

Mustang Island State Park is in between Port A and PINS, making both fairly convenient. Make reservations quick because they have limited sites and fill up quick.

IB Magee County Park isn't bad but keep in mind, you'll be right in the middle of the Spring Break madness. You can look up all the RV parks in Port A on their C-of-C webpage below (look under "Where to Stay-RV Parks". There's a lot of choices. Pioneer is my favorite though.

If you want an offshore trip PM me. A buddy of mine is a charter captain but only works on word of mouth and referrals. He's got the best prices for private offshore charters and he will put you on fish.

Caught these in a little over an hour, in the surf, just off the boardwalk.

Another surf caught red

Surf caught trout. Limit caught in about 45 min. In the surf, on top waters, ankle deep water, just off of the boardwalk.

A little offshore action

Our campsite we rented from May to Oct each year for years.

I just got off a tuna charter at Port A at 5 this morning. Hammered them, 107 blackfin, 15 amber jack, 15 fishermen on boat. Now I have to start cleaning my fish right now. Warm up the B-B-Q!!

I can't tell you much about the RV parks other than Mustang Island State Park. I've been there numerous times and it is a nice place. If you're looking for more primitive camping with nothing but a place to park the camper, I'll second PINS. I go there every year and always catch plenty of fish. As long as driving conditions permit, you can camp in plenty of spots with no one within 1/4 mile of you.

Look at Goose Island SP up north of Rockport/Fulton on the north side of the Copano Bay bridge too. The guide we always used slipped his boat at the pink brick marina just in front of the GISP access road. Good wade fishing on east side of the bridge past the houses, and with a boat, access to everywhere from PA to AP to P'OC. We fished north up the IC lots of times when the freshwater runoff water was bad down south and along the causeway from AP to PA. Been a long time since we've been down and need to go again soon.
OBTW theres a dedicated Kayak Trail out of AP I hear.
Cheers
Ron

Rockport or aransas pass. Port A is expensive. But scenery is better if your single

Staying in Port A is much better that Aransas Pass or Rockport because you can ride your bike pretty much everywhere you need to go. We pull a 29ft bumper pull and have stayed at Surfside RV on s. 11th for 8 years in a row. Nothing special but it's centrally located, has level concrete sites with great hookups, and the owner Charles keeps the place super clean.

Only thing better about staying on port a is if your fishing baffin or offshore. The island is the definition of misery during the summer...especially if you take the ferry between 6am and 12am

That's why you stay IN Port A. No car, no ferry, no traffic. The whole town is less than 2mi. across. I would ride my bike to the brewery (once daily). We would ride our bikes to the pier, marina, dinner, fireworks on the 4th you name it. Only place we took our truck was on the beach. We would usually only leave the island once during our summer vacations to go to the Aransas Pass HEB to restock. You're right taking the ferry every day would be torture.

If you're taking the 5'er then definitely stay at Pioneer. The sites are larger (wider and longer) than most of the other RV parks on the island. Also, you'll be a couple miles south of town and therefor not in the middle of all the spring breakers.

Not sure on the date but that's roughly the time that they host the sand sculpture competition. It's pretty amazing.

pioneer rv resort you can't go wrong with that we did spring break there with our kids for like five or six years running they still talk about going to pioneer when they were kids. the wife and i did a drive thru last year after a baffin bay trip it has changed considerably another swimming pool and golf carts everywhere it's a great place very clean and well maintained you won't be disappointed
