Just bought a jerk rig the other day and was wondering if yall have any tips or tricks you could share.

The only "trick" Ive figured out is putting a log on the end you pull on to keep the string under water while pulling on it.

put a weight on the other end. I use a bungee cord attached to the weight and then a D ring carabiner. Also, don't put a dozen decoy on the line. I've seen some guys try to string what seemed like their whole spread on the line and it was a boondoggle. 3 dekes will do the trick. Remember, it's about movement...

I tried attaching them in a couple different ways just trial and error really. Figured out it needs to be hooked up to the keel and not any part of the decoy string. Also the one I bought was a rig em right and I found that skipping one attachment point worked better for a bigger spread.

These little things are why I started the thread. Hoping to figure out any other ways to be more effective.

use metal posts with eyelets to run the string however far you want. If you want all of your deeks moving, attach other strings to your main string.

Don't jerk it while they're looking. Kinda like calling, hit em on the corners.

The ripples will get em in, not the dekes bouncing up and down. Also like calling, most times less is more.

I run 2 dekes on mine and put 2 floaters about 1 foot away from each one.

I have a 4' piece of pvc. I drilled a hole and put an eye-bolt through it. From there I attached a bungee cord. I use black trotline string to attach to the bungee and then the decoys. I run 1-3 decoys on it. It was cheap and effective. I had all items laying around the garage. But new, it would be less than $10. I did paint the PVC black.


I have also used my mojo pole to attach the bungee cord to. I drilled a hole in the handle/foot step piece on the mojo pole and attached the bungee there using the same setup as above.

Thanks for posting that, you confirmed what I been thinking trial and error. I use a small spread, 18 to 24 deek, but I have gone to 1 deek on my jerk string, seems like I get better movement, and like you said it is the ripples in the water that gets them. And I only use it if the water is glass.

Hmmm, how much are you jerking the line? I like to load up the line while they aren't looking then slowly release the line as they are coming towards the dekes so it looks like they are swimming. Works great.

To me a jerk rig is used two ways. Really aggressively for birds that haven't seen the spread yet. And once they turn towards ya very subtle so they see some movement and think what they are seeing are really dux.

Attach a swivel to the bill of a decoy, attach a weight to the front of the keel, and make a dipping feeder decoy. If you paint the underside of the butt end white it adds some flash when you pull the string.

Not sure what I have, but I have two of them I bought at Cabelas. The ones the duck commander uses or so say the package.

I run water keel decs on mine, holds 4, but I use three, a drake, a hen then an empty spot and another drake. I use two typs of ducks, some places I used red heads, the other I use bluebills. I have always added some white to my spread late in the year off to the side or out deeper and it seems to attract more birds.

Limited success with a mojo run in spread with jerk rig, took out the mojo and just used jerk rig and results were better. Last Sunday, I wanted to try something different. Took both jerk rigs, now other decs out, so I had 6 ducks out period, the bag of 36 was buried behind a tree just in case. 17 ducks came straight in on us with just the jerk rig, all 17 died, one bird short of third guys limit.

I have mine attached to feeder butts. You can work them and it looks natural. I just pull the cord enough to make the butts tip back and forth and send a a good ripple. Even with wind it looks good with the butts tipping back and forth.
