My son, when he was 8 years old, killed his first buck on a section we own in Coke county. Great memories!

This is my third year on my lease in Coke County, and also my last. I've seen more bucks on that place, but not one worth shooting. The other guys out there say they have seen a few nice ones, but they smoke a lot of weed.

That's the problem with parts of the county around Bronte and RL . Western parts and a little of the northern part have some decent deer. You will always see a lot of deer but not very many good ones. Before everyone thrashes me, there are exceptions here and there and I've stepped on nearly every rock in the county over the last 40 years. Doesn't come up much in the conversation of " best counties in tx to kill a B&C" lol

Our place has potential, but that's ruined by the day leasers to the north and the other guys on our lease. I wouldn't mind finding another lease in the county that wasn't this place with these people.

Obviously the area can grow respectable deer but I don't think you're going to find many B&C's coming from there.

When we hunted the March Ranch it was still over 100,000 acres and had never been leased for hunting....ever. The only reason we got to go out there was because my great-uncle was the foreman.

The buck I posted earlier was about as big as they got. Every now and then you'd see one bigger but they were few and far between. They probably would have benefited from protein, corn and food plots though. We had none of those. We didn't even have stands.

I mainly have the place for my wife and boys to shoot
deer. They don't care about huge deer yet. For my goals on that place, decent bucks would be great. They are tough to come by, though.

There is great potential for some respectable deer. The buck in my sig pic is from our lease. He has proven to be very smart and nocturnal though. I do agree if you want to see a lot of big deer this isn't the county for it but there are a few hanging around.

JCB, I am being told that AR15s are NEVER used for hunting. Is that picture staged? smile
