My friend said it is legal to carry a shotgun in your vehicle. Is this true?
Also what are the laws on carrying a handgun in your vehicle?

Where you been? Yes, always been legal for shotgun, and pistol for past several years.

You can carry a long gun in your car, on your bike, over your shoulder down the street.

Yep. And loaded if you choose. Probably get charged with disturbing the piece or something stupid like that if your walking down the street but it is legal!

I sure hope it's legal! Otherwise I've been seriously breaking the law for decades !
I'm guessing that was a misprint by the OP and somebody told them it was "illegal" to carry a shotgun they are hopefully looking for clarification.
It is unfortunate that so much misinformation is passed around in regards to gun laws.

I had a police officer tell me it was technically legal to walk into a bank with a loaded long gun-not recommended but perfectly legal in TX. I have walked thru the center of town from my parking spot to my hunting stand with my rifle in hunting season and no one blinked an eye. Might be different in big city limits where they have shooting restrictions.
