I bow hunt a small track of land and have been hanging on to an old tripod that needs some work. I have a welding friend willing to do the work. The box frame is mostly rusted so I plan to weld in new tubing and screw in light weight ply or even sheet metal and camo it. I am thinking of a way to open a section of the front to shoot out of without causing too much movement or noise... Anyone have tripod modification tips/tricks or pics?

I also hunt from a pop up nearby on colder/rainy days...

Thanks

IMO you would be better off and money ahead to scrap it. It will still have weak places and can be difficult to weld that thin rusty metal. Nothing worse than crawling up in the darkness and then having it collapse under you. Just have the welder build you a new one to your specs is what I would do. A thought also is to take the money it would take to repair, build or buy a tripod and build a really good tightly sealed box blind for bow hunting. You can put it as high off the ground as you like.

Yeah, we would have to rework it all from the floor which is still solid. Make a new box frame and customize it so I wouldnt have to stand to shoot from it. I see much more deer from the ground blind vs the tripod so I don't plan to sink too much money into it but would be nice for 90* days in october!
