I have one I just bought in .243 and I love it! Mine shoots 3/4" at 100 yards with cheap Winchester 100 Power Points. Need to try a few more loads to see what it likes. I really need to try some lighter varmint loads. It's very basic but with the bedding, trigger, and ease of use with the features, I don't believe anyone can go wrong with the rifle in the price range it's in.

I think I might get one just because I love cheap great working guns. I have 3 Marlin X rifles and they shoot great. I just wish the American had a .260 or something just a bit different.

Anyone have reviews for the Ruger American Rifle? Thank you. Larry Weishuhn now markets for Ruger and has been promoting the Ruger American heavily in print of late. We'll be having dinner together next Thursday, so I'll be sure and get the real scoop. But Larry is a first class guy, a fellow Aggie, and the most honest person I know. I'm betting you'll find the Ruger American to be a Best Buy.

I had to have a ghost blind...it was terrible. I had to have an Encore. Had one in 7mm-08 and couldnt get it to shoot for the life of me (traded it at a gunshow). Just havent been real impressed with the products he markets.

I had a Thompson Encore and it was real accurate, pretty too. But I did notice the POI would change a bit after changing barrels. Got rid of it because extra barrels laying around was kinda pain, they just dont stack well in the safe. With the reviews about the Ruger I dont see how one could go wrong on getting one, the only thing I dont care for is the look of the stock and I havent seen any replacement stocks available.

Had a friend buy one in .308 right before hunting season. I mounted his Nikon 6-20 on it and took it to the range, I was pleasantly surprised that it WOULD shoot about MOA or a hair under. I took it out to 540 yds, and they all went into a paper plate. I dont really like the look or feel of them, but they will definatly get the job done.

How did the dinner conversation go? Low down on the American?

Anyone have reviews for the Ruger American Rifle? Thank you. I've yet to buy one but I'm going to. My brother came down earlier this year and he had an American in 243, it looked and felt great and what I seen as the perfect ranch rifle. The safety was back up there where GOD intended it to be and the trigger was much better than any stock Ruger trigger yet with the action having that butter smooth feel that the older model Rugers are know for. I'm wanting one in 243 since it's primary use will be on yotes but I was concerned about the 1-9 twist and the faster 58 grain loads that I prefer. Well I finished out my wifes older Model 77 in 243 and it also has a 1-9 twist so I ran a few 58 grainers through it and it grouped just fine so that concern has been put to bed. Unless I run into an older Ruger 77 All Weather in 243 soon a 243 American will be riding shotgun soon. And let me add that indeed it does have a barrel nut which is something I peronally dislike, it doesn't look like and old Kenworth lug nut like those on a Savage.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I handled one the month after they got on the market and I thought it was a piece of .... But yesterday at the Dallas Safari Club convention I handled three of them at the Ruger booth and they are easily worth their money. A lot smoother than the first one I handled.
One thing I will warn you is that they are super lightweight (I guess that could be a good thing too).

Forgot to mention that I was shown a compact with a 18 or 20 inch barrel. They said they will offer it in .243 and 7mm-08.

I bought my Ruger American in 30.06 in July and hunted with it this past season. I like the rifle very much. It had a bedded barrel, adjustable trigger, and it weighs only 6.5 lbs. After I got the Leupold Rifleman scope sighted in, I was hitting the bullseye easily and consistently at 100 yards. The rifle is scary accurate. I like the tang safety, and the bolt has a very short throw. Retail on the rifle is $350 or so. In my opinion, it just can't be beat. I like mine so much, I sold my Weatherby Vanguard and now my Remington 700 ADL is my backup rifle.

Field and Stream said they were super accurate, as was the weatherby vanguard, T/C icon, and the savage.
however, they just look cheap. super cheap. and in tht light of a rifle, in something like a .30-06, its gonna have some recoil.
I'll stick to my standard rugers and stay away from economy rifles
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I bought one last year prior to deer season. When I picked it up, I was a little skeptical due to the box it was shipped in, looked like a box containing cheap fireworks with all the flags and marketing hype on it. When I pulled it out of the box, iwas more concerned because of the weight compared to other rifles I own. I mounted it with a red field revenge scope and took it to our ranch to try it out. Very impressed. Very accurate, and the weight reduction makes it a pleasure to carry around. Son and i shot a nice 10 point with it I highly recommend it for red blooded Americans that focus on accuracy more than appearance. This is not a cheap rifle, it is quality rifle at a fair price.
