Been working with a guy on another site to sell him one of my 1911's. We came to an agreement on price and place to meet. Well I'm sitting there and saying goodbye to one of my beloved Colt's and see his truck hit the parking lot and right after he parks up rolls the PD. He explained that he was almost robbed one day and ever since he calls the Police Station wherever he is and asks if there is a Officer Available. Good idea but I wonder what he does when the Police are busy and the guy selling doesn't have time to wait? OR What happens if the guy he is buying from hauls arse.. That would be another good thing, I'm going to have to give this more thought! Lower your chances of Confrontation & Less chance of getting a HOT GUN!

Sorta related story.
After divorce a friend went to his house (which was given to the wife) to retrieve all his belongings. HIs wife being a bit of a hot head, he called the Sherriff's dept. and asked if someone could be present while he went in and got his stuff. Deputy was there waiting when he arrived and everything went well. Sherriff's dept said they would rather be present prior to a blowup and prevent it than have to arrest someone or spend time otherwise diffusing a domestic altercation.
Never thought about it before then but sure makes sense now.

While I think it may have been overkill I will say this....
ALOT of stolen guns are sold buy human trash to unsuspecting people at gunshows- I know of one member on here that got a GLOCK 26 back that was in his car when it was stolen, because the guy who bought it at a gunshow took it to a shop and was gonna have them put sights on it.....or something like that
Since then in the rare event that I buy a gun from a private individual at a gunshow I always ask-----
"Sure I'll buy it, if we can go to the cops at the front door and have them run the serial # to make sure its not hot?"
Only had one person ever back down from that....and this dude walked straight out of the big town show and left PDQ!

Being cautious is one thing. Paranoia is another issue. If someone is that worried about being robbed, stay home and don't sell or trade.

Due to liability issues my department will not allow "Civil Stand-bys" anymore unless you have a court order, in which case it will be the Constable's Office doing it. Most PD's in our area will no longer do it either.
Too often we're asked to "stand-by" while someone loads stuff that isn't theirs or stuff that's considered community property and has yet to be assigned to one party or the other. So we just don't do it.

Heh... I'm gonna try that here in Dallas... I was SHOT AT and it took them 7hrs to respond. It shouldn't take them but about a month to come escort me to buy a gun.

That's a good idea, im always nervous meeting up with someone on a gun sale. Too many things could go wrong, I always bring someone with me and we are always carrying

It's a pretty solid idea, though I don't ever enlist the services of the tax-payer's dime.
On the off chance I ever encounter another person for a business transaction, I'll call one of the area kids in the neighborhood and offer him $5 to ride his bike over and play "look-out".

One could ask to do the sale at a local police station. Dirtbags selling stolen gun would probably want to stay clear of the police station.
It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to let someone inside know what you are doing, so someone doesn't think you are going to shoot up their station with one of those evil black guns.

I use my best friend as a sniper. So far all gun sales have gone good. I do the same for him occasionally. Only had the signal to shoot once but my redryder couldn't go that far.
