Even worse when you have 880 acres to hunt on and can't get any blood on the ground...

Never saw a deer at the feeder and only about six at ranges 300 yards and out. Over 35 hunts.

We had a decent year on our lease in Kinney county. Almost all the hunters shot their doe, and last I heard, several had taken a buck. That being said, we did not see anything like what we saw last year and the year before. I killed the ONLY doe I saw all year, and I never saw a spike or a shootable (per our lease rules) cull. Here's hoping next year will be better for everyones's hunting!!

Whew, guess we were lucky on our place. We got a lot of pics of different bucks, sime in the high 130s to high 140s. I shot a 7 that was in the mid 120s, he was about the same last year, a messed up 2.5 three point and decent doe. Saw 8 deer Friday and 9 on Saturday. Maybe 12 deer total taken in 1500 acs. and hopefully next year will be better.

we had a ok year i guess. Nothing shot, yet, still gonna hopefully get a doe or two. But we did see quit a few deer, some great upcoming young bucks, and a couple of really nice bucks that now, we wish we maybe should have shot. But if they lived they will be very NICE next year. THe great thing is we had a bunch of bucks on camera that we never saw but are REALLY nice.....

Good deer in the Panhandle, but you can certainly tell the drought is taking its toll. I fear anohter year of drought will set the Panhandle back a decade in terms of trophy caliber bucks. The last two years have had very little fawn survival rates and I am seeing age gaps in bucks that two years ago I did not see. Scary, but that's Mother Nature.

How come everybody I meet is a deer hunting expert?

Saw lots of deer early bow season. Then they all disappeared. I saw 15 deer friday night in the pasture before mine. They were no where to be found the rest of the weekend. Oh well the hogs kept us entertained. Time to disk and fertilize then start praying for a good next season. Zero for me but the kids get one more hunt before I break the ground.

We didn't fire a shot this season, I lost 50% of my does. the bucks seemed to handle the drought and winter a little better but the does were just too weak. Get a good wet year and they'll bounce back quickly. Now it's time to hunt exotics!

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Compared to last year, we had a pretty good season. Last year I shot an old buck and dad killed a doe. This year we each sit at two does a piece and I shot a 7.5yo 8pt that we wanted to cull and dad shot a nice mule deer buck. All in all, the hunting was tough, hot days and wind to start, but it is ending with some colder weather. Lots of hours in the blind, 6 good deer in the freezer, and another season hunting with dad. To be honest, I am a little less motivated heading to the stand as the season nears end, but I am already anticipating dad and I heading out a couple of more weekends this season and doing it all over again next year.

Yep! It's gonna be over and now I'll just have to get my fishing stuff in order and check out that "other" forum to see what's happening.

This season sucked worse than any in my 30+ years of being on my deer lease.

We obviously hunt in the same area! We have been on our lease 15 years and what I keep saying is that the hunters moved in about the same time as the drought and it made for a bad combo because new people to the area didn't get a chance to see it's full potential and most people expect to shoot something. I saw more deer last weekend than the previous 2 months! I had 4 8's in my pen and they were all 1.5 and 2.5 but they did look healthy. We only had one shooter this year and it was a deer we had been watching for 4 years and the neibs got him 6.5/166", out of 8 bow hunters we got a spike! It's hard to pack up and move after so long so we are going all out and running penned corn/protein and water(10) for the next 2 years and hoping for a big improvement.

This was a tough season. We saw deer every time we hunted, but the numbers were way down from previous years, and we didn't see many mature bucks. It had to have been the drought as we don't have too much hunting pressure.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.
