On the afternoon of the 3rd it was COLD!!! With light snow falling I waited to see if any pigs would show. Right at 5:30pm I spotted a large Boar working his way up the mountain towards my far feeder. I shed my gloves and got into position to make the shot but he didn’t like something he saw or smelled and wouldn’t go into the feeder. After about 5 minutes or so I was able to get a clean shot at his vitals so I sent a bullet from the 257 Weatherby Mag on a 200ish yard flight. With all the wind I didn’t hear the impact I was expecting and was very concerned when I saw him take off and run a easy 50 yards before entering the brush and losing sight of him. I started packing my stuff up and climbed down out of the stand and made my way up the mountain to where he was when I fired. There was no sign of a hit at all so I started walking the direction he ran and still no blood. Then I went to where he entered the brush and still no sign of a hit. After about 40 minutes of combing the brush looking for blood or a pig I decided I would see if maybe he double backed on me. I started heading east and within about 5 minutes I found 3 drops of blood on a rock and knew I had a hit. I kept looking for more blood to hopefully point me in the right direction but I couldn’t locate any more. With dark closing in very quickly I decided to mark the spot and start pushing through the brush some more and found him about 15 yards from those 3 drops of blood. The shot had entered just behind shoulder joint which is why he didn’t drop but still easily found the vitals. I found him about 25 yards behind my feeder but he ran maybe 75 yards total due to the loop he made. One thing I have learned about pigs over the years is that they don’t always bleed and it don’t matter what caliber or bullet you are shooting either. I knew this before I ever started the search and that’s why I didn’t give up even after 40 minutes of no sign of a hit. All this search did was just re-affirm what I already knew about how hard it can be to get a pig to bleed sometimes.

He is no where near as big as the one I posted pics of in my other thread but he will still probably rank in my top 5 best ever in size. He wasn’t real long but as you can tell from the pics he was very round and plump. The only thing he is lacking is the big cutters even though they are still pretty nice.

Great pics JCB. I hunted in the snow on Friday morning. I heard more gunshots than I'd heard all season. Saw a Pheasant rooster, that was it. I think snow scares Texas deer. I've never seen one when it snowed. I think they bed down and are wondering,"what's this stuff".
