The ATN IR450B_ series is actually pretty decent. It has a focusable beam and adjustments for intensity and you should be able to pick one up for a very reasonable price. Look up the NightHogs videos on YouTube. Those guys use the ATN illuminators.

If you don't mind a bit of tinkering and waiting, I've found some stuff on the shady-azz DealExtreme website to convert an old Surefire 6P into an awesome NV illuminator.

For 1st Generation, look around the DX website for a 1" disc of photography infraded pass filter. It fits almost perfectly under the bezel of a surefire 6P (I had to wrap the perimeter of mine with a thin strip of electrical tape to make it fit perfectly and block any white light leaks) and gives you a beam that is covert enough for pig hunting and REALLY bright through a gen1 scope. It brings out a lot of detail that you can't see with moonlight or lesser illumination.

For gen2 or greater, look around on the DX website for a drop-in infrared LED assembly for Surefire and Surefire-style flashlights. For a visual example of this device, check out the video that follows; it's the second one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KM_6pphih3Y
Note that the wavelength is a little too long for first generation NV and will not be anywhere near as impressive. If you go this route, I think you're probably best off mounting it like a weapon light - just make sure that the beam isn't cast onto your front sight or that's all you'll see through the scope.

Digital NV will pick up any wavelength.

At under 800nm, this works great for Gen I, II, or III as well as digitial night vision. You need a weaver mount for it or to tap another mount for it, but these work well. The vendor does sell the mounts and I have purchased from the vendor previously. It takes about 2-3 weeks for units to arrive.

Never used one, but it looks awesome. Out of curiosity, what NV are you going to be running with it?

I just ordered the TNVC Torch PRO head and will see what lights on which I can get it to fit or if I need to get a new body to go with it. For the money, I can come up with a body and switch cheaper than what they were offering. That isn't to say their price was bad, but only that I may have most of what I need already.

Hi,
GriffGruff78 nice setup, looks really good. How is the vision in night? Does it helps to look better.
While I was searching on web I found AT-32WS, white light illuminator, especially for night vision.

Alright, received the TNVC Torch PRO head. I won't be able to hunt tonight, but will take it out on the street with my Gen II+ 1x monocular and see how it does for general viewing. I fit it on my Surefire M951/2 (can't recall which) body. Fit well but needs some silicone lube on the threads, but fit fine.

The testing inside the darkened room indicates that it is a nice glass lensed collimated focussing head. They say it is variable focus but the beam appears to remain focussed regardless of how concentrated it is. Given the quality look of the lens, I just wish it came with a lens cover.

----------------

Okay with quick testing up and down the street and with a 1x Gen II+ monocular, 200 yards with the illuminator fully zoomed worked alright. It is not amazingly bright, but certainly functional and no doubt will be much better with magnified optics. The nice thing is that it is a Class 1 illuminator which means that it is eye safe, unlike using the lasers that are not eye safe for direct exposure. At roughly half (for the head) to 2/3 (full illuminator with mount) the price of the laser I mentioned above, this product is reasonably priced and so far appears to be a quality made product. I found no obvious manufacturer defects, scratches, or other problems.

If I were to buy gear over again, I would bypass the laser for the Gen II and above NV gear. I don't know about Gen I yet as I haven't tested it.
