Took a trip out to west Texas last week and spent a couple days shooting prairie dogs with my brother in law. My In Laws neighbor has a 2000 acre prairie dog colony. Was using my sons .17HMR. Holy smokes that is an awesome little round for prairie dogs. Sighted in at 100 yards and it is point and shoot out to a little over 250 yards. 30mph crosswind no problem till you got beyond 200 yards. Furthest hit was just shy of 300 yards. I tried a couple beyond 400, but with shifting winds I'd miss an inch or 2 left or right. Not too bad with that small of a bullet and a small target at that distance.
