I remember the fist lease my dad and grandpa were on over in Llano. Scotts Ranch. 600 acres, had a little of Llano river running through it, a decent cabin, and the place looked like a post card picture.Deer, hogs, turkey, EVERYWHERE!!! i was 5 when i started going with dad, and 7 when i shot my first doe....and then many more for a few years after that until they got off the place....it was a great place.......
just curious if you guys remember the first place you go to hunt on, good or bad, stories or not

I loved the first lease me and my Dad got on. It was on I-37 right at exit 47 Hailey ranch road. They never told us the total acreage, but it was probably 6-800 and packed full of deer. There were no restrictions on what we could shoot, who we could bring, or when we could come out. I killed my first buck out there and so did two of my best buddies growing up. Since then it has been high fenced. Would love to drive around and see what type of improvements have been made on the place now. When we leased it it wasn't even under a fence on all 4 sides. One night we drove in to corn roads before going to town to sleep and found a guy and his woman getting frisky in his little red truck. Had a limp bizkit sticker on the back window. We joked about "old limp bizkit" all weekend and even still!

25 acres on lake Travis. We hunted about 200 acres of it. First time hunting by myself sitting in a tree, no structure, just branches, a fork horn walked out. He was black. Being a novice, I didn't know what it was. Looked like a deer, only black. I shot it, it ran straight for me and stopped under my tree! I shot it again, the end. A few years later, hunting near Hamilton Pool, I killed another black whitetail, black as the ace of spades, a six point. 1980, & 1983. I got a late start on deer hunting, was 20, first hunt. First lease there at Hamilton Pool, 600 acres, 600 a gun, three guns. We thought it was expensive.

Grewup hunting lots of land in Mississippi. After moving to Texas got my first lease. Felt really confined as far as the size of the place but not the numbers of deer and turkey on the place. It was 150 acres in Adamsville on the Lamapasas river. That first opening day killed a spike and an 8pt that was big for the area at the time. Could have easily killed out that day but didn't want the season to be over in one day.

first lease i ever went to was in hamilton out by the spotted horse bar, i was too young to hunt but spent a lot of time riding 4 wheelers while the old men slept.
the first lease i paid for was in 1994, i had just turned 16. llano, tx, out around cr 114 i think, i remember the "llano hilton" was a few properties to the east of us. 450-500 acres, huge hill right in the middle, great rocky draws all over the place, tons of deer and hogs, even a few aoudad. we could take anyone we wanted and hunt anything we wanted all year long, for $450 a gun.
had the lease for several years, spent many a summer weekend out there shooting jack rabbits and hogs. good times.
If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

My first lease growing up was in Rocksprings (South Texas) on the Buddy Epperson Ranch. It seemed to me like it was several thousand acres but I have no idea how big it really was. I loved it. Seemed like every time we went one of us got a nice buck. The very first time we went out I killed a nice 8 point that still hanges in my parents garage. Dad has been gone 8 years now, but I hope to one day soon take my boys back down there. Such a beautiful place.

Anyone familiar with San Antonio or more specificaly the City of Garden Ridge has seen mine. It is now what is called the Georg Ranch Subdivision off of FM 3009.
I hunted it 2 years '97 and '98, then it sold and got developed. We paid 225 a gun and it was less than 15 minutes from my house, was a great lease!

First lease I was on was in Perrin, TX. The Wimberly place. My father leased from them from 1977, I was born in 1981, all the way until 2005. There are so many memories from that place as a child into becoming a young adult I can't begin to start telling them.
I can only dream of a place like that for my children to grow up hunting on. I still know that place like the back of my hand.

Yup... First one was in Coleman County on the 430 acre Gosset Ranch! Loved that place and would pay anything to get on it today!

Absolutely! We had to move my Nan to my uncles recently and my dad found this old article about me and my PaPaw on the lease in 1990 in Clifton.

Memories like these are the whole reason I have a lease. Yes, getting away from the city and hanging out with the guys is a lot of fun, but I mainly put all that I do into it so that, long after I'm gone, my kids can look back on these happy days hunting, and remember who they were with.

An old man allowed my family to hunt on his ranch south of Christoval throughout the 70s, 80s, and early 90s for nothing more than a little help when things needed fixing. I'd give anything to be able to hunt that ranch with my uncle and dad one last time. When old man Creighton passed away rumor has it his grandkids sold the ranch off in pieces. It was 15 sections of land if I remember right.

My first lease was in Mississippi back in 1977 with my eventual in-laws. They had several thousand acres leased from a paper company for 50 cents an acre. It was long before the days of food plots and feeders.

My first lease was near Sheffield and it was GREAT, lots of deer and some javilinas. We were all more interested in partying than hunting though, so not many deer were killed. Plus we had no blinds or feeders (didn't really know about them). But it was some good times!
I'd love to have that place back, knowing what I know now!

We payed 350 a gun for 4 guns on a 780 acre place in the hillcountry. Been off the place for two years, still keep in touch with the landowner and they came to my wedding a couple months ago, good people... they dont make em like that any more!

Yes I can, still on it......for the last 32 years and my father and a couple of his close friends were there before I was in the picture.
We're close to having to deal with the 3rd generation of landowners.

Grandparents owned 10 acres in Bracketville. Shot my first deer there (4point Buck) at 8 years old.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

I grew up hunting on a several; Ryan's Lake, Boggy Slough, Tower Club, Smyrna with my dad and family friends. Then I hit the magic age of 21 to get on the leases myself and opted for Renfro and then Forest Lake. My best memories are from down on the Neches River in Ryan's Lake, Boggy & Forest Lake. You see stuff you'd never imagine seeing in a million years. There's still a tree down on one of those places that has initials and the date 1802 carved well up in an old cypress tree.

Yessir I can as well, and I'm still on my place. It's family owned section and I have shot a great buck on it for the last 7 years. Hopefully it will continue to produce nice bucks!
