Why would a retail business try and keep inflated prices if their is not market at that price?

Personally I think a future ban that would grandfather the existing ARs, might bring the price even further down than before.
This is my reasoning:
There are a lot of ARs out there. The law would probably allow the civilians to keep their ARs, but they won’t be able to sell them anymore. If that’s the case, many would probably start selling their ARs while they can.
After the panic buy, we might see a panic sell.

This is all speculation off course.
But the fact is that a Colt 6920 that was going for $3000 a few weeks ago are now around $2000.

That would be true if it was a natural market inflation. This is being driven by an artificial force. Its happened before, look at the price of any class III auto rifle. That is what happens when supply is forcefully stopped.

Seems prices are coming down. I'm seeing ar's that would of been sold a couple weeks ago at high prices are coming down. The prices are dropping. It's going to be funny for the people that's payed premium prices for a ar that will be worth half of what they payed, but on another note all it would take is Osama Obama to open his mouth again to start the frenzy up again!

Prices are coming down because the "panic" has waned a bit and gun control isn't the leading story of every news item, but wait until Biden pops his recommendations out there and those recommendations become talking points for the media. My uninformed thoughts suggest that those recommendations will be somewhere along the lines of what Feinstein is talking about, so prices will climb again.

My fear is that prices will bounce along in sync with DC discussions and whatever the media talking heads are spouting, meaning that prices will increase and then stay high as long as the issue remains active in the media. Although I feel like some changes are coming, the uncooperative atmosphere in DC will likely make this a long and drawn out battle with no real relief in sight.

I doubt it also, but I think there will be another mini-panic once the ban legislation is introduced into the House. Things seem to be settling, but i think it is because people have a short attention span.

They are already coming down, just look in the classifieds here and elsewhere, those $600 DPMS rifles that were selling for $1500 in 5 minutes flat 2 weeks ago are now having a hard time selling for $1200! You also have some guys that bought AR's as a knee jerk reaction that now realize they need the money they pissed away on a AR. This will pass and there will be some sore butts from the guys that bought in a panic!

Only thing that will be interesting to watch is right about the time Biden introduces his gun control agenda it will be tax return time and I would bet we see another spike.

I'm kinda thinking this may be the case as well. There is going to be a lot of publicity on the proposals for bills and whatnot, all of it POSSIBLE inclusions that may or may not make it into the final draft. It's the possibilities that are scaring everyone.

This won't be a Clinton Gun Ban. Possession of hi cap mags will be illegal. So ...there won't be any value to them unless its a 10,000 fine and 200 years in jail.

I'm selling just about everything in this madness. May as well get 50.00 per mag and 2500 per rifle now, then nothing or almost nothing later.

I they ban rifles we may get 200-500 in a buy back. Magazines won't be worth anything.

I've been seeing to many things that would lead me to believe they are going to empower the ATF to reclassify weapons and they won't need Congress to ban anything.

Quote:
Biden’s group has expanded its focus to include measures that would not need congressional approval and could be quickly implemented by executive action, according to interest-group leaders who have discussed options with Biden and key Cabinet secretaries.

They will come down by Feb 1st after they do another magazine ban. They will try and then they will need the republicans to sign off on it so they will compromis just like Romney did in MA.

Yeah. Somebody will come up with something that looks like restrictions, but nothing that's going to make much difference.

Supposedly the Feds are over 10,000 waiting on checks for guns. The guys at our local gun club said a fellow purchased a new AR the day before the shooting in Conn. and decided he didn't like it and returned it 3 days after..he paid $1795, the club resold it same day it was returned for $2995..Crazy times..I'd suggest you try some of the vendors in Shotgun News..ect..DD

It is interesting that everyone seems to assume that there will be compliance with any new gun ban laws. The majority of the people that were paying multiples of normal prices were not members of the “gun culture” (who did not need to buy anything to be “prepared”). After paying way above par for their weapons (there was not a rush to go hunting) they now have real “skin in the game” and are making their own statements to the politicians. They did not pay huge premiums so they would have something to give up to a ban.

I epxected to see quite a bit of action through this second term via exec order...I told my family as much that it will be mainly due to the republican house (even though they don't amount to much of a threat anymore as seen by the sequestration deal they cut, bunch of panty-waists). There will be significant changes made to our second amendment rights via executive order in the near future. We may see fights over the validity of those orders, but the orders/laws will be made.

The main problem we face as gun owners, is there is significant public support for banning assault rifles and high cap mags (currently defined as anything over 7 rounds by the admin). We don't see it in Texas as much beause we are a little fanatical about our guns (I like to say we are smarter than the rest of the country), but I have several friends out east and in the midwest, and they have softened to the point they agree with the assualt weapons ban and a ban on high cap mags. They don't understands why anyone would "need" those, and since our schools don't teach proper history anymore, the longer this goes on, the worse it will get for us. It is a sad time for the US, but already we are seeing even east coast republicans (if there really is such a thing) signing deals with their democractic counterparts in aggressive gun legislation.

I agree congress won't be able to enact anything, but don't be fooled into thinking something won't be enacted.

Ar-15 prices are going down almost on a daily basis.
On gunbroker the colt 6920 with LE marking is going is going for less than $2000 and the standard 6920 NIB goes for around $1500.

This is all good….

Yup the panic driven inflated values on these things is dropping like a rock and the classifieds here and elsewhere are flooded with AR's and components, guys ought a sell while the selling is good! Its almost comical at this point to see guys list these entry level Ar's and put $2500 or $3,000 selling prices on em, its like they haven't been paying attention.

I’m wondering if the price drop on ARs is not (at least partially) because of this ridiculous ammo shortage.
If today I could find a Colt 6920 for $1000, I would probably not buy it. I’m no collector and I want to shoot my guns. What would I do with it if I can’t find any ammo to feed it?

I didn't ask the prices because I'm not looking for one but last weekend I was in a gun shop local to me and I heard him tell a customer he had 6 ARs. I looked over and he had more than that so I assume some were spoken for. Like I said, I didn't ask the price or mfg but they're out there.
