If you have a face book go to face book and search Wayne Bomstad. He is one of our show host. He is a retired Aeronautical engineer and has taken about everything you can with a bow including the elephant. When you find him, send him a message and tell him Ken sent you.
He will and can explain what you will need and you will leave (hang up, move on, close the window) knowing for a fact that when you go after the beast you are hunting you will have what is needed. He has helped engineer several archery accessories (vanes, inserts and other) in the industry in the last two years and would be more than happy to help as long as the person is willing to listen..

Hunt Wicked thanks for the information! I will contact Mr. Bomstad. I appreciate hook-up.
I've already started looking at the shot placement charts and watched several videos. It's hard to tell sometimes on videos just how much time has passed, but even with a good shot with good penetration it seems to take a while for the bull to go down. On a good note, they also don't seem to run much and sometimes barely flench at all when shot.
Thanks for all the information and discussion guys.

i shot mine with a mathews drenalin at 62 lbs with an easton epic 340 and a 125 grain slick trick.
one arrow is all it took. if you havent looked at a shot placement chart for bison please do. if you shoot it in the arm pit like a deer it will be a gut shot. you MUST line up with the front leg.
good luck and have fun! not that i know 1st hand, but what i was reading the other day says otherwise. http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=deltabison.tips From looking at the chart, I would do as froghunter and line up the front leg. If you do in the "armpit" area, it may not be the best shot. Looking at the pic, the reticle is not in the armpit. it looks to me to say, "just dont shoot the leg, but right behind."

I have no clue about bison but my dad shot an elk cow from 25-30yd facing us. Usually pulling 70 but that time he was pulling 60. Went thru main artery, guts, stomach and was stopped only by hide. Rage 2-blade 100gr. Easton ST epic

mine didnt flinch at all either but the heard did run. they stopped and made a circle around the wounded cow with thier hind ends faceing her. she stood in the middle for about 15 minuets then fell down. the heard stayed with her for a while then the lead bull shook his head and ran off. the rest followed. watcing it was one of the more bitter sweet moments i have had in bowhunting.

Check out tradgang.com there's a dangerous game section there with lots of info on heavy arrows and big critters.
