I hunt in Houston county and what I have seen and heard from others is that there is not much going on up there. I usually see 2 doe in the evening hunt and that's it, but Monday morning I saw 8 doe. not sure what that was about. no bucks though. other then that not to many gun shots so I think its a slow season.
You don't always see something or get a shot. That's why they call it hunting, not killing.

In our area of Houston County, the bucks are definitely back together and trying to make up for those lost meals they spent during the rut. I've seen more bucks over the past three weeks than I did the entire season up to this point. I took a nice 12-point a couple of weekends ago, and jumped a nice 8-point last week while walking back to get my ATV after shooting a boar.
If you see a buck now, he'll probably have some company.

The weather is expected to be perfect guys, with cool days and cold (at least for us) nights.
It's so slow with many people still out at work, that I'm probably going to take Friday off and hit the woods a little early.

I was up there on Monday to check a few things on our place and noticed that the deer are finally hitting the corn hard as well as the oats/clover I plant. My guess is the colder weather had a lot to do with that, but based on tracks and camera pics, they are out and moving again. I had three new bucks on camera that I have never seen.
You hunting any food sources?
Having said that, shot placement is key and there is only one level of dead. Us east Texans can't afford turquoise and elk ivories for jewelry. So we use hog tushes and coon peckers.

See does every hunt but more in mornings and hitting corn good. Bucks are slowly starting to show there faces again....after about thanksgiving the bucks went underground..just like every year . It's best to get your buck in the first few weeks of season here in Houston county. At least we have a muzzle load season and by mid January the bucks will start moving during daylight again.

Huntfish- Is your oat patch fertilized? IMO you can pull some deer off of the others if your is fertlized and the others are not. Won't help much for hunting this year, but there is always next year.
