I retired in June and to fulfill my bucket list, booked a cow elk hunt with Heart A Ranch in Sonora, my friend booked a W/T buck hunt for his son. It is 4200 acres of rough Texas Hill Country with only an exterior game fence. They have whitetails, elk and a variety of other exotics. They have a bunch of good black buck and fallow. He has 30-40 elk with some 300+ bulls. We started hunting Wed. 26th afternoon. It was cold, blustery and with a full moon, not the best of hunting conditions. We dropped my friend and his off in a nice raised blind and drove around scouting for the elk. Right before dark Jason’s father called to say Ryan had shot a buck. I don’t know a lot about this hunt other than they saw several exotics along with whitetail bucks. I believe that he offers to size priced hunts. One is for representative bucks up to around 100-110BC or so and one for ones in the 120 class. A nice 100 or so buck came out around dusk and Ryan was about to shoot when it went behind a juniper. Before it reappeared Ryan’s father Scott saw a better buck and told Ryan ‘don’t shoot, don’t shoot.’ He didn’t, lucky for one buck, unlucky for the other! For his first buck, it is a great one. It scored in the mid 120s. The Heart A has several bucks in this class that will obviously make it to next year as even better trophies.
Jason, wife Nicole and Elgin offer a great experience at an affordable price. One feels as if one is hunting with good friends or family not treated as clients. Capt david

My wife shot her first Axis at Heart A. Jason and Nicole are great hosts and as mentioned above, make you feel like family.

Ryan made a great shot on a good solid 10 point. We enjoyed having David, Scott, and Ryan on the ranch. Have a great year and look forward to seeing you again in 2013!
