Pig weights get my vote.

I bought a Cabalas digital scale a couple of years ago because I got tired of folks telling me I was over estimating boar weights. I was concerned that it maxed out at 330#, but I was too cheap to buy the 550# scale I really wanted...

So far the 330# has not been an issue. I have hung several that had been guessed, by multiple hunters, as over 300, only to find them not breaking 250. Those guessed in the 250 range typically come in around 180 - 190.

The tape measure around the chest does get pretty close. I have weighted and measured almost a dozen now.

We all need to practice Whoa more.

Well I never overestimate my pig head shots because I document them, LOL.

However, pig weights definitely seem to be consistently overestimated by most folks, sort of like most distance estimatations (someone noted above). Along the same line, deer weights get misrepresented quite a bit as well. After a bit of research, turns out that humans are typically pretty bad at estimating things like weight and distance, especially visual estimates.

I would say the score of a deer (and maybe the age too.)

I say pigs because I hate to try and guess the weight of a pig. Now if I see one that is standing in a road where the front legs are in one rut, and the hind legs are in the other rut, and the pigs butt and head overhang the road on each end, then to me, that is one big hog! See what I mean!

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.
