How much should a deers antlers grow in the last 2 months of velvet?I guess its a certain amount of inches a day depending on protein,stress,etc..?Also do they grow until the velvet starts to come off or before?

It all has to do with the deer. I worked on a whitetail breeding operation and the biggest deer on the ranch (240 inch 17 point) looked like a 120 class deer for the majority of the velvet process and then he would erupt in the last few weeks.

If I am not mistaken, the reason that bucks start rubbing their antlers, is because they have stopped growing, and the blood supply to the antlers is drying up.

Could be wrong on this, but I believe that is the way it works.

Believe it or not supposedly they don't shed velvet until they have their winter coat. It's related to the photo period. I have watched since I learned that and so far, from what I've seen, it holds up.

If you have cameras out and notice dark bulbous tips, that means there is still a lot of blood in the antlers and he's got quite a bit of growing left to do. I've got bucks that are all but done growing and some that have just gotten past their g2's.

That's what I've always read. As they start to harden the velvet becomes almost like a scab, can't wait to get it off. At that point they have stopped growing.

Unless he has got some kickers coming I don't think he's going to grow anymore tines. His brow tines look good but the G2 and G3s don't look to be more than 6 and 4 inches (if that much) respectively. His beams don't look to be more than about 16 to 18 inches right now. I have a hard time judging deer with velvet on though. He may get taller and the beams longer by a few more inches but by mid to the end of August it will be pretty much over. JMO.

Still a young deer and very symmetrical, let him go another year or two if you can.

Whitetail Antlers in Velvet are the fast growing tissue of all animals.

If you wanting to see how big he can grow them, give him another year, if you really like him and really want him and can't wait drop him.
