7400 is the the semi-auto. The pump is 760 or 7600. Owned both in 30-06. Never had any issues with the 7400 and accuracy was fair. 1.5-2 inch three shot groups were average with factory ammo. Just prefer bolt guns for their simplicity and got rid of it. Wouldn't mind having a 7400 in 308 with an 18.5 inch barrel for kicking around.

Must keep very clean. Will jam with just a little gunk.

I have a 742 in .308. Very reliable and reasonably accurate. I haven't really cleaned mine in about 30 years and it always goes bang.

They run great, the internet myth about them jamming if they arent sparkly clean is mostly bunk. I had a one in .270, it loved corelokts and would shoot 1". I gave up on .270 and sold mine to buy a BAR in .30-06. BAR doesnt shoot any better. The only gripe I have with the 7400 is the bolt release in the magazine, it works 100% but it is a cheap shortcut. They also dont hold their value all that well but if you find a good used one in the $350 ballpark you are ahead of the depreciation curve. There are 10 round mags for them out there.

the last one i bought(.308 not 30/06) had obviously never been cleaned. it took a pack of patches and two old washrags from the rag box to get it completely clean. but. . . it was functioning as is and i probably could have just took it and used it and not cleaned it at all. it'll shoot 1-1.5 with green box corelokt if i'm not too jittery at the time. does need a better scope.

The ole' 7400 wound o matic
Lol. Good rifles. Noisy to load.
Not the most accurate, all these 1" claims I'd like see in person
Look for accuracy around the 2" mark
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I've had two 7400's in 30-06. I'm sure there are some that merit a good scope but my opinion is just put a red dot on it and use it for a quick point n shoot gun. You know, front shoulder type of gun. That's what they are good for. You will probably be disappointed if you expect more. That was my mistake. I wish I still had one cuz it would be set up like I described.

My brother has one in .308. 1"+ groups are the norm but he shoots it well so I'm not going to knock it.
