I want to tell you I loooove me some hamburgers. This might sound stupid to a bunch of you but my dream is to open up my own restaurant with the main focus being burgers. Therefore I do a lot of research. But it is a dream.

Anyway, here are my reviews.

Boots Burgers -

Food - 2 stars - Burgers just aren't very big for the price with an ok taste to them.
Atmosphere - 2 stars - Served out of a shack next to their house.
Service - 1.5 stars - When they run out, you're out of luck. You have to get there early. The guys kind of seemed like they were in kind of a bad mood when I went. They have signs that discourage eating your food on site at the picnic table.

Meer's Restaurant - We went this weekend on the way to out deer lease in Throckmorton after dropping off our son at SWOSU for his freshman year of college.

Food - 2 stars - It was an ok burger. I expected better. It lacked seasoning. It is a half pound burger mashed down on the flat top to fit a seven inch bun. They then load a ton of condiments and mustard. On my first bite, I couldn't taste the meat because of all of the veggies. I ended up taking a bunch of them off so I could taste the burger. My wife felt the same way.

Onion Rings and fries were good, as well as the 22oz Meers Beer. All other drinks are served in a BIG mason jar with free refills on tea, water, and lemonade.

Atmosphere - 4 stars - If you want to go somewhere where it will take you back to what it was like to live in the country. This is the place. Really cool feel to the place. It was built back in the early 1900's and has a lot of history behind it. I like places like that. It is a feeling you can't recreate.

Service - 4 stars - The waitress was very, very nice and answered all our questions. One thing you need to know if you plan on going up there - it is CASH ONLY and is closed on Tuesdays. We knew this going up so it wasn't a big deal. The nearest ATM is 11 miles away.

But overall, the atmoshere is what makes Meers a top 3 on the Yahoo Best Burgers list. It's not the burger. I will go back though if I go to the deer lease from SWOSU

Dude bootsburger has been there prolly 50 years that is the point, gotta get a doubledouble to get the taste, and you aint supposed to eat there, and there is a reason they sell out of meat everyday!

Dude , I did get the doubledouble. Like I said, it was "ok". It just didn't stand out to me. I know they've been there for 50 years but that doesn't make the atmosphere any better. Your still just in some neighborhood. There's nothing that really shows the history of the place. But on the other hand, they are really hurting for room to display anything. It is what it is. Not bad, just ok. There was nothing there that made me think,"Man, I can't wait to go back."

I don't know about everybody else but when I get referred to a place that is supposed to have the "Best" of something, then I expect it at least to come close to that mark.

With that being said, I will nominate Dairyland in Jacksboro. This is MY personal favorite.

Here is my review of Dairyland:

Food - 4 stars - I always get their large double cheeseburger on the way back from our deer lease in Throckmorton. I have to get it without vegetables because I always pick up our order on the way back to Rowlett and there is no way I could drive with all the veggies on it. Anyway, the burgers come in regular or large and they even have a baby burger for the little ones. They are ALWAYS hot off the grill and juicy. The fries are crinkle fries and are good as long as they don't get too soggy from the moisture caused the paper it's wrapped in. My mom says they're bbq is real good but I can't comment since I've never had it. My family LOVES the burgers here.

Atmosphere - 3 stars - The only reason I give this 3 stars is because, along with being established for a long time, they have pictures of deer that have been killed in the area. I like to look these over if I ever have to go inside. I also like the way, if you use the drive thru, you order at one window and drive around the building to the other side to pick up your order.

Service - 2.5 Stars - This would be better if their service was faster. I always call in my order when I am about 25 minutes away so it is ready when I get there. I have ordered at the window before and have waited as long as 30 minutes for my food. But the waitresses have always been extremly nice.

Again, it's JMO.

It's been about 10 years since I have eaten there but I remember it was good.

I went by about four months ago and the traffic was so screwed up because of construction that I didn't stop. I need to though.

It sounds like you ended up at Dairy QUEEN instead of DairyLAND . In that case, I can see the comparison. You're just confused, Man.

Trust me, you don't have to worry about me eating another Boots Burger.

Not confused! You have to go easy on bootsburger, out of towners just dont get it I guess, but there is something there or they wouldnt sell out of meat everyday they open the door, wanna go sit down or french fries not your place, but there alot of people that grew up in Rockwall that will argue with you all day. Enough said, and you can keep dairyland to yourself, I will grab a bootsburger on the way out of town.

We'll agree to disagree . There is something to say about the old places like Boots, Dairyland, and Meers that continue to stay in business today. They all have something that keep people coming back.

sorry I can't agree with Alice Fay's, my daughter was a teacher in Rockport last year spent some time down there, maybe I went there on a couple of bad days but I was not impressed. The best one I have found on the road is Juciy burger in Longview, it was great and they give you ranch style beans all you want with the burgers.
