Bought a CVA Omega .50 cal few months back, studied up on muzzle loading because I had never even shot one before and decided on 100 grains of Pyrodex and a 295 grain Power belt. Got it zeroed and shot enough to feel like I was good to 100 and carried it for about three weeks now and finally got a shot Saturday at 80 yards on this buck. I expected an exit but found the bullet lodged on the far side skin but there was plenty of internal damage. Sorry the pic sucks but its all I got.

Now that you have been "baptized"....welcome to the club! I'm sure after you shot, and not being able to see your target, your first statement - "did I miss him?"

Wind was blowing in my face, stand fills with smoke I can't see a thing, when it cleared I expected to see a buck laying in the dirt but I caught a glimpse of him running into bushes.

Don't necessarily want one just expected one. I'm a recoil sissy 100 grains is just fine.

???? Really? Tell that to the buck I killed a couple of weeks ago. 230 gr round ball and 90 gr FFg in a .54. Double lung shot complete pass thru.

The answer is FLINTLOCK! Now, what was the question?

Same here, I always get a pass through with my load of 70gr FFFg with a 177 grain round ball.

Congratulations on a nice buck! I started blackpowder hunting three years ago just during bp season. I finally shot my first one a 7pt with three days left in thid season. Was even sweeter it was on the back of my homeplace. Used a CVA Wolf, Powderhorn scope, with a Powerbelt 245 grain pushed with two Triple 7 pellets. Heart shot but he ran 30 yards and fell dead in the creek. Still cold morning smoke didnt clear for minutes, couldnt see anything but the rest of the deer running all over the food plot. No hair or blood for 20 yds, thought I missed but it did the job.
