Hey guys. Until this past weekend, I've only hunted deer, turkey, pigs and dove. My buddy talked me into hunting ducks with him. I bought my stamp and steel shot and took my shot gun with me to the lease. After the Saturday morning deer hunt, we jumped a few of our ponds. The 2nd pond had a duck that did not want to leave the pond and flew to the other side. My buddy told me to stay put and get ready. He made his way to the other side and jumped him up. He flew straight to me and I dropped him. My buddy was really excited for me because the duck was a fully plummed Red head. He took pics and sent them out via text to his duck hunting buddies. A few of them expressed their displeasure and jealousy that my first duck was a fully plummed Red Head and I shot him with a Winchester 1300 pump with a full choke(I forgot my other chokes at the house). Being my first duck, I'm curious to know why his duck hunting buddies were jealous? Any input? Needless to say I'm hooked. Can't wait to get it mounted. I will try to post a pic soon.

Not sure why they were jealous, but a fully plumed red head will look nice on the wall. Congrats on the first duck. Also, be careful about shooting steel shot out of a shotgun with a full choke. I think many of the gun manufacturers advise against using a full choke with steel shot. Good luck and have fun.
Yeah, don't listen to me. I'm just an idiot.
Lol. Duckbill that was funny! The dude up top has already taken lots of bone before this deer, both mule and whitetail.

Because alot of tank/pond hunters don't see them. I've shot tons of them but only shot 2 mallards in my life. Its all relative. Here's a photo from last year on our best hunt.

Nice. We saw a leucistic hen after we had a 4-man limit of redheads already. We could have each shot a 6-bird limit of em if it was legal.

Ya its all kinda a location thing. Most of the guys I hunt with have never shot a Pintail or Redhead. When I was at aTm, that was primarily what we shot down there on the prairie and at the coast. But most of the guys I hunted with during college had only killed one or two mallards if any and certainly no wood ducks. Its all relative to what you are hunting (fields, timber, open water ect.), and where (north, south, east or out west).
Congrats on the Redhead and good luck with the addiction!
If you build it, they will come

Guess I have been lucky, been hunting central Texas for 7 years now and have shot 1 of everything. That is what I love about our lakes can see anything from canvasback to greenheads!!!

Congrats! Those are nice ducks. Made me remember years ago before steel shot and when Redheads were worth 100 points each. As a kid I popped up and barney blasted a flight with the Browning IP Cyl and knocked two down. Yeah Dad was a little bit upset over that one.

Dad was a little bit upset over that one. I had one of them moments not too long ago.
