This weekend HWOH hosted two Marines no longer in uniform and their 3 children at the Rock Creek Ranch near Copperas Cove, TX. Geoff brought Tristan and Caleb and Gino brought Mike to experience the wonders of the Deer Blind and the joys of deer camp. HWOH generally takes guys hunting but it is an adventure to take guys with their kids. There is a whole new set of challenges. Happy feet, wiggling and jiggling in the chair and, the timely out of the blue questions. It provides a whole new level of after the hunt deer blind footer. It is however, one of the most rewarding hunts one can be presented with. The look of joy and utter amazement on a young man's face when he holds the antlers of his first deer touches any hunter's hart. I present you three former shooters who are now proud hunters:
Gino brought his nephew Mike, the son of a former Army Medic who is no longer with us on his first hunt. They hunted with my buddy Justin. On Saturday their luck was not that great on both stands the deer were just not moving. They saw a few Red Deer at distance and a few Whitetail doe but not what we were looking for. On their way back to camp on Saturday evening Justin spotted a great Japanese Sika and Gino put a great shot on him:
On Sunday they found a great 8 point for Mike to take a shoot. He hit the deer a little low in the front leg. Good thing we had made a great new friend in Chuck as we had to call him and hunter back out for another track job. We everything turned out great in the end and here is Mike and Justin with his great 8:
It was a great weekend and HWOH made several new friends. Thank you Chuck from bringing Hunter out to help us not once bet twice:
If you need a Blood Tracker in Central Texas around the Copperas Cove area look Chuck up on the Texas Blood Trackers
http://texasbloodtrackers.com. Hunter is a heck of a dog and Chuck is a great guy.
Thanks Gino for bringing Mike, Geoff, Tristan and, Caleb out to hunt with HWOH. Good luck in the future with your not for profit organization Tomorrow's Hunters, Inc
http://youthoutdoors.org. It is a great thing you do taking kids, and especially kids of fallen service members hunting.
Thank you Rock Creek Ranch for hosting HWOH again. Mike and Justin are great people and wonderful guides. We will see you again in Jan/Feb for some more Sika action.
