Do any of you hunt with or hunt near the guy who never puts any time in the field and/or never feeds or does anything else to improve his land or hunting area or deer camp for that matter and always CHUMPS out and bags a big buck?

No, but I do have a co-worker that's as useless as they come. He went to Hawaii a couple of years ago, charted a 4 hour fishing trip and caught a 1000 lb Marlin. I can't tell you how many hours I've logged offshore fishing and never caught a blue over 400 lbs. He doesn't even fish.

Oh, and the few times that my wife will go fishing she will be the one that catches everything. I'll catch hardheads, if I'm lucky.

Usually it's been the other way around where I've hunted. They also don't last long on the lease. Sounds like a brother in law. Lol

He doesn't shoot big deer but expects to hunt the honey holes and fill all his tags.
Gets under my skin!

My dad is kinda that way you will see him smoking, talking in the phone, drinking deer, snoring .....ect. and it never fails he always shoots a good buck. But he does spend alot of time on the ranch I think the deer are just use to it.lol

Some people the deer gods have blessed I guess. Like Kacee, but up it in a ton of hours looking and dollars for feed and lease to make it happen and it is more rewarding for her to shoot than myself. One day I am gonna put a thread together with all of her kills from the beginning til now.

I have a buddy that fits this one. We were hunting north of Jayton. He had one day to hunt all season, Thanksgiving day. Gets to the ranch the night before at 11pm. Deer movement was bad for the last 5 days. He opens his case and guess what, no shell case. Looks in his rifle and has one round in the bottom. Go to an area to hunt but decided to rattle. Walk into an opening and settles in and waits for daylight. Rattles in 7 bucks. 2 Really good ones, one a really wide 8(23"+) and the other he can see only broadside and typical 6x up on that side. Shots the buck and he runs off. Walks over to the area and can't find no blood. Searches for well over an hour. Not a sign, though he knew he hit the buck. He then walks towards his truck to leave and hits a trail. Follows it maybe 200 yds from where he shot at the buck and walks up on his buck dead. 6x5 typical 12" inside spread that grossed 164 in an area I had hunted for 3 days previous and not seen carp!

we fish with some people like that.

throw the same bait, fish the same boat and they will outcatch you 3 to 1.

eventually you just enter into a degree of acceptance.

Yep... took two friends elk hunting in Colorado some years ago, neither of them had ever been West of the Mississippi in their entire life or had killed anything other than maybe a small southern deer. On the second morning of the hunt I placed them both along the same ridge about 600yds apart from one another. At daylight a group of elk just about steamrolled both of them. Needless to say they killed a great 6x6 and a 5x6. And they acted like it was no big deal and wondered if we were going into town that day to eat lunch... so they could watch some game that was on TV that day!!! They had no concept of what they had just accomplished. I was so disappointed... I had scouted those elk for months and so was excited to put these two knuckle heads on em and they just shrugged it off after killing two great bulls.

I don't. I call him my friend. But what I did not add in is this guy is a dang good hunter and all he had that season was that one day to hunt. It was due to outfitting hunts on his own ranch and the Holidays. He knows how to read a ranch and then plan a hunt for that ranch. He has hunted for many years with success and also gone home empty handed.

Fishing with my wife. She ALWAYS catches the most and usually the biggest fish.

Chump may be strong for me, I feel that luck plays a factor in hunting too.
