I've been wanting a 6.8 but can't afford a complete upper at this time, is it possible to just rebarrel mine, or are the .223 and 6.8 just too different?

Buy the barrel and a new bolt and youre good to go.
You won't need the entire bcg only the bolt. It will fit right into the .223 carrier

You'll need a 6.8-specific magazine as well (although I think there may be instructions out there on modifying existing ones).

6.8 needing a BCG is also why the 300blk has out ran it on conversions.

Unlike 6.8, all thats needed for 300blk is a barrel. Same mag and BCG as the 223.

Cool. That's what I was thinking, but I trust you guys more than the average internet Rambos. I had one guy try to tell me that you even needed a dedicated lower, which I know is bs
It's gonna be awhile, I've got to recover from Christmas before I spend any more money.

Sounded like he was a dedicated up seller

He might have been saying you need the lower to say "6.8 cal".

Which is also CRAP. LOL....just make sure to tell the person you sell the rifle to, if you ever do sell...it's not a 223.

Don't ask me how I know..lol...but 223 doesn't chamber really well on a 300blk. Ill just leave it like this: If you take both to a range, don't lay the mags close together.

If you swap barrels then you can't go back to 223 very easily. Stag has some very reasonable complete uppers. Swapping uppers gives you two rifles ready to use. Not sure if they are caught up in the panic buying or not.

You can purchase one magazine, one barrel and one 6.8 BOLT. You can still use everything else on your .223 AR.

Dont forget a new muzzle device and crush washer. Most 6.8 muzzles are threaded different than 223/5.56.

The barrel that I'm thinking about buying isn't threaded for a MD. It's a heavy barrel with an 11 deg. target crown.

The mags are shaped different, get you some 6.8 mags or you will have issues.

Actually, there is a company making dedicated 6.8 lowers that are a tad wider mag well. I can't remember the reason why. . . too much work.
