I've always hunted out of lean to's or tripods. Just finished a box blind and was wondering if anyone camo's them out. Is it a waste of time and money to paint them?

It can't hurt, doubt it helps though. I think you can paint if yellow, and the deer will get used to it being there.

He's right it can't hurt, but after it has been there a few weeks(Max) they will be use to it. My old man is color blind. He asked me to go to HomeDePot and get him some brown paint for his blind. When I got there I saw they had hot pink "left over" paint on sale.I jst coulnd't resist...Took him weeks to figure out what we were laughing at when we talked about his stand. He shot the biggest buck yet out of that stand 3 months later.lol Think im going hot pink this year...

I would paint them just to make the wood last longer, but I don't think it really matters what color they are.

Might as well camo it. It needs to be painted anyway, might as well have some fun with it.

yep you need to paint it if its wood. Go the home depot or lowes get the opps paint its great price. I bought a 5 gal bucket for $10 had a price of around $55on it. It was gray. but NO you do not need to camo the stand up. you can go see Big red ( my stand ) this frum under My new Home. I had deer, exotics, varmits they never look at me But dont wate to open day to put you stand and feeder out. We joke about that every year the guys going out 20 caring blinds feeders on Friday before open day.

DOESN'T NEED TO BE "CAMOED" BUT IT IF IT'S WOOD IT NEEDS TO BE PAINTED ANY WAY.... WE USE WHATEVER PAINT WE CAN COME UP WITH AND THEY USUALLY END UP KIND CAMOED

I used to hunt on a ranch down south that had a blind on it painted in HOT PINK. The deer could have cared less about it, and it had as much activity, if not more, than the other camo painted blinds. We used to call it the "Pink Flamingo". Once the deer get used to a blind, they don't care what color it is. Camo blinds look cool, but its not necessary to camouflage them, just put some paint on them.

You do need to paint your blind if it is wood for protection. It does'nt matter what color, they will get use to it.

I don't care what color the outside is. However, I like to paint the inside in some color that won't highlight me when I'm in it.

That cracks us up too but unfortunately some folks only have limited access for season leases.

i think that it is more important to have a dark interior color so your siloutte is hard to see from the outside of the stand. the deer won't see much movement if its dark inside. JMO

Old timers used to paint the ceilings of their porches sky blue so wasp would not nest under them, it worked very well. Would blue stands keep the wasps away I wonder? We get overrun with them in Texas

IMO, any color other than blue would work fine. Blue is the color spectrum that deer see best. Don't take me wrong, deer are going to see and notice it despite whatever color you choose. And honestly, I feel the most mature bucks will often avoid a box stand during daylight hours no matter the color.

Remember, deer live through their nose. Noises and sites mean very little to a deer.

One trick I've learned over the years is to wear gloves and some sort of a face mask to shield the sun glare when you move around, especially off the hands when you bring the binocs up. Aside of that, I've never owned any camo clothing or made it a point to try to paint a blind any particular color.

An article in Field & Stream mentione d that deer see similar to us. A study was done and (if I was reading it correctly) they see bleu jeans better than they see orange. IMO I camo.

I have hunted out of ground blinds that where fresh, unfinished plywood, and had deer completely ignore it. I worry more about humans seeing my equipment and stealing it, or damaging it, therefore i camo everything to the hilt. I really dont think deer care. Skinner
