Pulled into our CRP field to gut a deer, when we turned to get back on the lease road saw this. Got out and kicked the tumbleweeds off and realized it was a yearling doe. I've heard of mountain lions covering up there kill to come back later, but I've also heard they usually tear the intrals out. It's chest had been eaten out. Sorry bout the pics, but I didn't wanna stay around long enough for whatever did it ti come back for it. Just wondering what y'all thought did it.

Only if you had a game camera on you at the time. You could have set it up and it would have told you for sure.

yote or bobcat...yes i have seen video of a bobcat taking a yearling down by itself....hogs could also be a culprit

Partially eaten and covered up is a sure sign of cat. You got either a big bobcat or a lion helping with your doe management.

Pig's or coyotes would have eaten as much as possible if not all the kill.

Did you not check for tracks??

No doubt a bobcat can take down a deer but hogs did not kill it, they will eat it but not kill it unless its wounded or already dieing.

Yeah I found it on our lease. I have not seen a coyote or a hog on this place the 3 years we have been on it. We have cameras out every where. And I didn't look for tracks because it was alittle unnerving and I didn't have a gun because I was bow hunting.

If it was covered up that is usually a sure sign of a
Cat and a good size bobcat can take down a mature deer.

But when a mountain lion kills I thought after the kill shot they start eating on the shoulder and gut. Then remove the guts and hide them. Unless it was a female with cubs and she made the kill and left to go get the cubs to bring them
Back and was unable to make it back and vultures got to it for a little while?

I always see critters and vultures start at the easy places eyes, mouth, but or guts.

Other than that when we shoot hogs and dump them they start at the bullet hole sometimes.

Wonder if it was a wounded deer from bad arrow or bullet that just died?
