I have never seen this on any of our deer. Not sure what to think of it.
My first thought was a snake bite.
One of our hunters seems to think it is caused by parasite from eating deer corn of the ground.
I hope this young buck makes a full recovery.

Looks like he lost a fight. During the rut, injuries are not uncommon. It may just be real swollen. The left side looks like a relatively fresh wound.

I would be suprised if it were a parasite. Looks like a fight to me and he took a pretty good shot. I've also seen stuff like this happen when they get hit by a car.

Don't really know just seen a buck like that a couple of years ago. We killed him and those swollen places were hard and not soft.

I'm sure if its a snake bite weight loss is a side effect.

I have been watching him all hunting season and he is young buck. I would say this is his first set of antlers. My first thought when seeing him, was man what a great looking young buck.
If he can make it five more years he may be a stud.

If he makes it 5 more years he WILL be a stud. He'll be ok. I see 1 or 2 every year with substantial injuries, and see them the next season stronger than before.

I can't tell you if he will make it or not to adult age. The buck I saw with a similar look only got it at 5 yrs old. He was not a buck I saw but once or twice a year also. Due to seeing him the first time when I took this pic and not knowing if it was growing in size or would effect his vision and cause him to get stuck by another buck we opted to hunt him that year.
Here is a pic of the year he was shot. In the pics it also appears like he had the swelling under both eyes but it was only under his right eye. It was hardened but appeared to be growing from summer TC pics of him. When he looked at you, you could not see the whole right eye. Being the first day I had seen him in over a year I was unsure of his health. He was fat and healthy looking. I did not get to inspect the skull after skinning for a mount since the hunter took the whole deer with him. I wished now I would have since it was a mystery at the time and still is today as to what happened to him.

Here is a pic of the year before of him without any swelling.

Not sure Nav. I had thought that the buck could possibly got stuck when in a fight. The other bucks antler/tine tip could have gotten into the scent gland at the corner of the eyes and causing the problems. Would have to talk to a Vet to get their take on it though. But looking at the OP pics and the one I have posted I would guess that what ever happened it is the same for both.

I've seen something similar, and it happened was an infection from an apparent wound from a fight. It had filled with puss as eventually popped. Buck was shot shortly after that, and it was pretty nasty.
