I know you can buy conversion kits come with the bolt and a magazine, but is it safe to shoot .22LR through the same barrel or is it better to put together another barrel assembly and interchange both the barrel and bolt?

You can shoot .22LR through the regular barrel just fine, but it is definitely not as accurate as a dedicated .22LR upper.

There is a bushmaster that Dick's has for about a grand that comes with a .223/5.56 and a .22LR upper. It's the C15 combo for about $1,000. The other one I'm looking at is the Windham Weaponry base model for $799. Any recommendations?

Contact Morgan at Dallas Shooting Supplies and he can get you a conversion kit for your gun. Now that .223 has gone off the charts, I use my .22 conversion all the time.

Bass pro in Grapevine had three 22lr conversion kits yesterday, for just over $100. It only included 1 magazine, and 1 bcg.
