My wife told me yesterday that we really need to buy a semi auto 45 pistol, so you can imagine that I didn't argue! I want a full size, not compact. All my rifles are Ruger and I have a GP100 that I love so I am partial to Ruger, but not set on it for sure. I would like to keep the price around 650 or less. I want a 1911, but I also wouldn't mind a magazine with a bigger capacity. With all that said, what do you recommend?

Personally, i think I would go 1911. It's just such a classic American pistol. IMHO, all real "gun aficianados" should have a 1911.

Springfield Mil-Spec would fall into that budget.

Get the Ruger SR1911! It's made in America.

Yup, me too.

Or you could look for an XDm .45 or a Glock 21.

I've heard good things about the Ruger 1911's. I love the 1911 frame and have several Colts, several Kimbers, a Sig and a S&W. I just got a new Delta Elite 10mm, great caliber and handgun. As far as quality features at a value price the Sig 1911's are hard to beat.

there is nothing wrong with a 1911 ...my favorite gun is my Colt Combat Elite..but i find that i shoot my much much cheaper S&W M&P in 45acp as well as the Colt and its lighter to carry and actually holds 2 more bullets....there is quite a few good 45's out there...have fun looking

M&P45.

10+1 and mags available that are 14+1. Made in America, very easy to field strip and there's a lot out aftermarket for M&P. Plus you'll have money left over for ammo.

Go try several at a range where you can rent them. Then you can get a good feel for what is right for you. Make sure you try the S&W M&P too...Different backstraps to choose and it shoots great.
