I wouldn't snare, allot of yotes will avoid them,,best choice is coilsprings...I would use MB550 or Bridger #2CS

55 grain hollow point at about 4000 fps works pretty darn quick.

I've had better luck with snares on trails under fences.

Is there a possibility of pets in the area? I ask as I would be afraid of hurting a pet...just a thought.
I was wrong...on anything technical. Fitz............. is right, ya know............

Started messing with snares a bit last year. I have several on my place, and one thing I really like about them is that they are easy to setup or take down when I come and go. I can get out there friday afternoon, make a quick walk, and set the snares in a minute or so a piece, and when I leave for the weekend, I take them down off the holder, pull the loop closed, and lay them out of the trail, and just leave them that way for next time. Only caught one coyote with them last year, but I only had ten snares out for five or six weekends, and coyote activity is hit or miss at my place anyway. Once the fawns dropped, I stopped putting them out, since I didnt want to risk catching a fawn, but I will start putting them out again once hunting season is over and see if I can get another yote or two!

Use a #2 coil spring on a simple dirt hole set with a little canine lure inside the hole. Make sure everything you use is absolutely scent free from human odors and wear rubber gloves when making the set also dye and wax your traps to help neutralize the metal smell, fox and coyotes can easily become trap shy. Make the set along natural movement corridors.

Camp fire set, hay bales set, urine post set, snare trails... snare kill sites,
You need to prep your traps too....... sterilize them, stain them, wax them.......

I think you are better off with snares. Leg traps are alot more time consuming and take more attention to detail bc of the the good sniffers that yotes have. Find some trails under fence lines and set a bunch of snares and you will be in good shape. Leg traps are a ton of fun, but challenging to a beginner, but this is spoke from a beginner myself.
