As the title implies, which AR platform in .308/7.62 NATO do I want, and why? (under $1500)

I have a Bushmaster ORC in 308. It is accurate, handy (albeit heavy) and in your price range.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

Yeah, I looked into a Bushmaster MOE in 308 if I go the Bushmaster route. (although those seem hard to find)
Other options are DPMS or Armalite that I've seen. I'm totally unsure of what to pick.
I do believe I want a chrome lined barrel and a metal lower if possible.
Also, who's got the best deals on AR's, and has them in stock?

Rusty: what are the advantages of an FNAR? I know the disadvantage is the takedown. How many rounds until it needs a takedown?
Chuck: What kind, and what are the advantages?
Looking for something totally reliable, fun with hogs, ect.

Make sure to take a look at Rock River Arms for a 308 AR. Excellent fit and finish, great trigger, and shoots very accurately even before I have reloaded for it. Its heavy, but you will find that on pretty much every 308 semi-auto.

Having said that, shot placement is key and there is only one level of dead. Us east Texans can't afford turquoise and elk ivories for jewelry. So we use hog tushes and coon peckers.

I would get anyone you can find in this climate.
I persoanlly own or owned the following AR10 (T), sub MOA all day and only weighs 8.5 stock. DPMS SASS, sub MOA. Bushmaster ORC MOA.
All have been totally reliable and very accurate.

Looking for something totally reliable, fun with hogs, ect. It is a Century Arms Cetme (HK91 Clone). The advantages all day long is price. You kind of have to know what your looking at though as quality runs all over the place on them. You can buy one for half the cost of an AR10, but since they are made of mostly surplus parts they seem to either be a shooter or not. Look for a good looking bore and check the bolt gap (you can see how to on Youtube). The one I have now is a blast to shoot and will do a sub 1" group with cheap ammo from Dallas Reloading Service that I pick up from gun shows. I only have two complaints with mine. 1. I reload and it chunks brass 30+ feet, when you pick it up it is beat all to heck and a good 80% of it is not reloadable. The only centerfire rifle I own that I buy ammo for. 2. My eyes are not what they used to be and it is not an easy rifle to mount a scope on. Going through the process now, but think I have it worked out. With that said, excellent ranch gun, hog gun, take to the range an plink gun (Just make sure there is no one to your right or your far enough down the line as the ejection doesn't matter)

Scary, I am really not qualified or experienced enough with AR to advise and should not have opened with the post.
I can tell you that the FNAR has ran like a Rolex. From bipod and butt stock bag I can keep an 8" gong ringing at 300 ydes with about 0.8 second splits (i would think that is pretty slow) I am sure no pro so the rifle must be helping alot. I think the 10X fixed scope may slow me down a little. Holding stock pretty aggressively, gong doesn't leave scope.
Lots and lots I don't know about shooting AR (type) rifles. I wonder what kinda splits a pro would have at 300 yds. I can tell you with EOTech at close range with aggressive hold on FNAR my spilts are better then above although I have never timed them .
No experience with other AR (type) 7.62. Be interested in what ya dicide

I'm no pro with these either Rusty lol. I know mostly about Russian things for some odd reason, also 1911's, closely followed by other pistols and revolvers.
I understand the AR platform is less reliable than the AK on average, but much lighter and more accurate. (please don't hang me for stating that) I already have access to .308 ammo for hunting, and have been kicking around the idea of getting an "AR-10" for about 3 years or so.
I do know that you want to get a 7.62 NATO, and then you can also shoot .308. (similar to getting a .357 revolver, and then you can also shoot .38 special)
I may get an FNAR... they seem to be all that is left on the shelves right now. I'm certainly okay with a painintheazz takedown. the wife does love the smell of hoppes#9 (even if she doesn't quite admit it lol)

While this is true for modern semi-auto battle rifles, 308 is actually hotter than 7.62 and may not function in older semi-autos. 7.62 can be fired in 308s though. 7.62 in a 308 = OK 308 in a 7.62 = depends on rifle
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

My FNAR did NOT like soft point hunting loads - way over an inch with many tried including hand loads
It seemed to really shoot the “Match” bullets well but I’m not trying to hunt with those so I moved on
Didn’t care for the 69 dollar mags either

Really happy with my cheapo DPMS Oracle. I swapped the handguard to a free float, put a Lantac Dragon brake on it, and added a magpul stock. With handloads it will shoot right at an inch with a 4x scope.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.
