So my wife just told me I can have a rifle for Christmas for $900 or less. So I'm looking for something equal to or less than the recoil of a .270. I'm thinking of Weatherby 257 mag or 25-06 perhaps in Remington BDL. As for brands I'm thinking of CZ, Browning or Weatherby. I'm not a big fan of Savage and wasn't real pleased with the performance of the only Ruger I've ever owned.

Your feedback is appreciated....

For $900 or less I would get a Remington Model Seven CDL in 7mm-08.

Where do you mostly hunt?

I just got me a remmy 750 in .308 before rifle season opened, more than pleased, recoil is less tham my .270. and topped with Burris fullfield II it was around $900 for both

Its only barked twice in battle so far, and she hasnt missed yet

Take a look at the Model 70 Classic sporter, and I'd suggest one in .25-06 Remington. The Model 70s being made in South Carolina are very nice. The MOA trigger needs a lighter spring (I got one from Ernie-the-Gunsmith), but once installed the MOA trigger is awesome. The only trigger in my safe any better is a Winchester Model 52 with the Micro-Motion trigger. The Model 70 gives you controlled-round feeding, and the three-position safety is perfection IMO. It's one handsome rifle, to boot. I love my Model 70!

You can only have too much ammo if you are on fire or swimming....

I had one of those...and gave it to my nephew. I figured I'd rather give it to him when I'm alive and an enjoy seeing him use it rather than him getting it after I pass on and never getting the joy of him using it.

I think for a Texas hunting rifle the Remington model 7 in 7-08 is as close to perfect as you will find.

I have a Remington model 7 in 7-08, stainless short carbine barrel, beautiful laminate stock with Ziess 3x9 scope. I bought it primarily for my girlfriend and nephews to use when they hunt with me. Awesome setup and great caliber for whitetails.

Guys I want to thank you all for the responses...

I need to clear up some stuff...

I already own the following:

Rem BDL .223
CZ 550 22-250
CZ 550 .243
CZ 550 6.5x55
Browning BBR 270
CZ 550 .308
Browning BBR 7mm Mag
Win 300 SM
CZ 300 SM
Rem BDL 300 MAG

So I'm actually trying to find something between the .243 and .270 and that's why I'm thinking about the 25-06 or 257 Mag.

All these rifles are pretty darn accurate for hunting rifles. Back in the day I put three rounds in the same hole with the 7 mag with hornady factory ammo at 100 yards...it was the gun! I've had neck surgery and just don't want to take the pounding anymore so I'm looking for something with a little less recoil that'll shoot a ways.

Thanks

Was going to suggest a 260 but you have the ballistics of it covered with the 6.5X55. IMO if you are wanting a liter recoiling than 270 the 257WBY ain't it. The 25-06 is only a little less recoil than the 270 but it is less.

Tikka and TC are 2 I would look at in the 25-06 but there are others like the CZ which you appear to be a fan of according to the list.

I'd pick one of these: .260 or a 7-08. I like short actions. Rifle would have to be a personal preference.

Wow...10 different rifles and he wants advice on another...really????...if your neck can't handle the recoil of a .243 to .270 perhaps you should take archery..just saying.

Looks like you could use a Win. Model 70 in .25-06.

? Either I need to review what I typed...or perhaps you do? What I believe I said was that because of neck surgery I do not want to shoot anything with more recoil than a .270 and wanted something between a .270 and a .243. As for hunting I can certainly handle the recoil of one round out of any of my magnums but to go to the range and shoot 5, 10 or 15 rounds is more than I can handle which is why I wanted a smaller cal rifle.

As for shooting a bow I have had to give that up for the same reason...my neck. I'm not going to explain it to you but I do hope you never have to deal with same.

And as for me asking for advice... Why not? Just because I'm fortunate to own a few rifles you seem to begrudge me this? I'm definitely not an expert and am interested in what others think.

Well if it were me and just based on the strict definition of rifle Id get an AR-15 in 5.56. Then I'd wait a bit and pop up on here offering to trade it. You'd get a lot more in trade than $900 the way people are acting. Or better yet keep it and shoot it!

280. And every cz I've shot or owned is an absolute tack driver they do offer the and the set trigger is a really nice feature. But honestly man with ur lineup an ar is a smart move u got all ur bases covered for bolts

Sorry deerhunter...I too have had neck problems, I'm one of the few that has survived a car crash because I wasn't wearing a seat belt (35 years ago) and got tossed out...age 13 and spent 6 months in a neck brace...after reading the list of rifles you currently own I was just surprised you needed help selecting another rifle...seems that you have more experience than most...and your arsenal covers a nice spectrum...all of the quarter bores are appealing to me, with the .257 Wby. mag being my favorite...I apologize that archery hunting is out for you, that sucks!!!
