This weekend we ventured down to Corpus Christi, TX to take a young man named Jacob on his first hunt let alone his first duck hunt. This weekend was packed full of firsts, first time hunting for Jacob, first time hunting on the bay for Zane and I, and first crack at Red Heads for Zane and Jacob. Jacob is a good kid and has been raised by a single mom, she reach out to me in late spring and asked if I could take him hunting, as he had always wanted to go. So I poked around a little and found Bobby Luna at Lone Star Waterfowl Guide and setup a weekend hunt for Jacob, Zane and myself. I personally, really like hunting Red Heads on the bay there is a ton of action and they are very pretty birds:    The decoy spread that Bobby put out was similar to long lines, basically 3-4 parallel lines of ducks about 3 feet apart with dozen and 1/2 decoys about 3 feet apart on each line of Red Heads and a few Canvas Backs. Then he would trow about 3 dozen mix Pintail and Wigeon decoys as a sort of back stop creating a pocket in front of the blind for the Red Heads to crash into. The method worked very well:   We were covered up in Red Heads and took a 4 man limit of Red Heads along with 2 Pintail Hens on Saturday morning:  On Sunday it was just Zane and I in the blind with Bobby, so we decided to make it a 20 Gauge only affair. We managed put a 3 man limit of Red Heads and a fully plumed out Pintail in the boat with the little 20s and it only took 8 shells:  Bobby did a great job and was wonderful with the kids. I will be hunting again next year with Bobby and would recommend his services if you want to hunt in the Corpus Christi area.
