We found a great looking pup after searching for awhile. Wanted to see if anyone had got a lab from Hollis Country Labs in Belleville? Not an expert in breeders or pedigrees so just looking for anyone with personal reviews. We are sonexcited to go pick him up next weekend.

Are you looking for a pet only?? I see they don't test for PRA, EIC or get their breeding stock's elbows x-rayed. All are very important when dealing with show stock.

I'm very familiar with Mountain Meadow kennels..

It's not going to be a show dog, just a family member with some hunting though. This is the little pedigree :
Dam: HOLLIS' JAZZIE JAZZ MANDIGO, English, white, 78#, OFA, OFE, CERF certifications.
Pedigree includes:

Sire: HOLLIS' SAM I AM, English, light cream, 93#, OFA, OFE, CERF certifications.
Pedigree includes: CH Dickendall Arnold, World & Int'l CH Franklin's Golden Mandigo,
CH Shamrock Acres Light Brigade, 3xGRHRCH Legacy's Atchafalaya Nightmare, CH Castlewood's Just Do It,
CH Castlewood Catch Me If U Can, CH LoBuff's Bare Necessities

We are getting a price break only because he has a crooked tail, otherwise she said the other pups in the litter already sold for 1200, so I'm assuming its a good breed. Also he does come with a 2 yr health guarantee.

Oh boy,,,

Limited health clearances,, A guarantee that doesn't hold water and parents that haven't done squat as far as being a retriever...

I bet he's really pretty.... wink

I guess I'm confused here, are u saying I should shy away from him? I talked to another breeders who didn't have a current litter, but had nothing but great things to say about these labs. Like I said, this is our first lab and are by no means experts on anything, which is why was asking around. Just looking for advice here. This will be a family dog more so than a hunting dog also.

Limited health clearances. There are plenty of other litters out there that have more thorough testing. Why take a chance with a dog that may end up with bad joints and/or a genetic disease (EIC,CNM,etc)? You can find some very well bred litters for well under $1200, and they'll have straight tails too. There are litters that have show and hunting lines, if that "look" is your driving factor.

Might as well stack the cards in your favor.
