Anyone one here know whats the best way of removing old paint on a pistol and keeping the original blue finish?

remove the paint, have it re-blued by a pro is your best bet.

Have you tried acetone? Apply it liberally to an old bath towel. The towel is a bit abrasive and it will help. The acetone evaporates very quickly so be preparred to reapply.

As far as the bluing, I don't know if it'll harm it or not. It depends on the type of bluing on the gun. The bluing on my Savage action has not been harmed the two times I've removed paint from it.

I soaked all pieces in actone last night, Does not work... I just went and bought Aircraft Paint remover.. Lets see if this will work...

Spray it on and wrap in tin foil. Use Dremel with plastic buff (looks like mini tuffy pad) after maybe an hour in foil. Wear gloves. Done this on several 10/22 receivers

i have an old WWII FB Radom VIS Mod 35 (Nazi Pistol), It was painted.. I wanted to strip the paint and bring back the original finish...
Will post up pictures later..

I used Aircraft paint remover on my 10/22 and I was very impressed with it. I bought it at Walmart.

As far as the rust on the mag... I use Evapor-rust and man... It cleaned it all up and kept the original finish on it...
