had a gift for my fil thru hunter that got me into hunting. Found out that it won't work. Need gift ideas for the avid hunter and need them quickly. Don't have a lot of cash, wife wants something personalized maybe. Please give any and all ideas y'all have.

If you are looking for something personal and reasonably priced, I agree with the knife and rifle sling. Flask and coffee thermos also comes to mind, depending on what he drinks. Photos or a display is always good and personal if you can get some if his things from years past to use.

The latest DVD/Blu Rays of Realtree's Monster Bucks, Primos The Truth, or Waddell's Roadtrips are always a big hit.

I'm kind of a dork but I watch those things over and over. Beats the heck out of a 30 min TV hunting segment filled with 20 minutes of dumb advertisements.

An engraved knife with something personal to both of you will be highly treasured. I have given them to my sons and have received one in return from them. When I read what they wrote every so often I get choked up all over again and very proud of the relationship we have.

Wives don't understand knives. I treaure the ones that special people have given me. For example, my ex gave me a knife for a birthday one year. I saved that knife and gave it to my son (the one we had together) when he turned 18 yo. He understood.

I carry a small Gerber that my current wife gave me. Very time I open it, even to sharpen a pencil, I think about her.

If he bird hunts, a really nice bird bag makes a cool gift. Both Filson and Beretta make great ones.

I have a buddy down in Harlingen and his family owns an embroidery shop. They make custom gun cases (pistol and rifle), and they can embroider ANYTHING on the cases. Initials, symbols, brands, or anything than can be scanned into the machine, so it can be personalized. They also make some really cool gun mattress that you can put multiple guns in and roll up.

Their rifle and pistol cases are extremely well made. I have some of each and they are top of the line, made to last a lifetime. Also, they sell most of the cases for under 50 bucks. Check them out.

Get him a "Butt out" ! Seriously, I got one for my brother in law a few years ago as a gag gift. He used it and absolutley loves it! He bought me one, and I used it this year. Love it! I will never have to cut around the anus of a deer or hog again!
