How frequently do you have to do it to condition them?

The place I am now is LF and did not have a corn feeder for a couple of years. I started in August putting out corn a few times a week till hogs got bad. Workend them over and started again Sept. It took about 3-4 weeks to get them used to the sound and then they would come out pretty soon after if it was not to hot. Once late October got here and I started to corn everyday they came in faster with cooler temps. Now I can go out and they will show up fast in the evenings. In the mornings they will be out before I can park and get in the stand most times.

Yes. We have thick cedar lined roads and i will corn them going in or through an intersection near so I have a couple lanes to watch out of the high rack. If I have the youngest I will corn the sendero from the stand to the feeder so he can shoot at a comfortable distance. Also behind the stand on the road leading to it. Many have been taken behind stands on our place.

Let me ask it a different way.... What's the minimum times per week that I'd need to corn the roads to have it make a difference?

If you have a road feeder it is more the sound of rattling the food bowl. Usually about 3 days in a row. Morning and evening.

Corn everytime you go to the ranch during the season and off season and you will see a major difference by next season. Major.

i use a feeder from the truck. deer here it and they come out like fat kids chasing the ice cream truck.

we have alot of deer so i put out about 15 lbs per sit spread out over a few spots

if the wind is wrong it also allows you to still hunt the blind with success at teh corned spots

lol, i might fill up my sig with your quotes. another good one.

During the rut it puts does in many locations to spread their scent out for bucks when they are cruising and checking for does in heat. Best of all it allows you to hunt a stand when the wind is bad by allowing you to put deer in the places you want them.
This pic is from this afternoon. I had not been around for 3 weeks till yesterday to feed roads. I put corn out this afternoon and these deer came in within 10 minutes. Corn feeder does not go off for another 50 minutes.

These pics are from early Nov. this year on different days. The corn feeder would be about 75 yds to the right in this pic.

This buck was 5 yrs old in this pic. I had not seen him at a corn feeder since he was a 2 yr old. He would only eat corn in the road. He would be seen only 2-3 times per season total. This was the first time that year he showed up at a stand. He was killed 2 days later. Corn feeder would be 300 yrds from this deer to the left in the photo.

wow!

We generally corn to about 200 yards. Have found out that if you corn to 300-400 yards, they often times will start out there and may or may not work their way down during the hunt.

Also I do not corn a straightline if possible. I will corn in a curved or "S" shape the whole distance I corn so that the deer are not all in one straight line. Helps to get a shot if or when a big buck steps in. Nothing worse than having a big buck on corn with deer directly in front and behind him.
The distance I corn is usually 300 yrds or less to scout or see deer. If hunting it will be 200 yrds or less or how far the hunter I am with can shoot (after watching him at the range).

I try to go as wide as the road width will allow me if possible and still keep most of the corn where I can see the deer.

Anybody had any luck doing this on a ranch that only gets visited every few weeks? I'm tempted to try this but could only corn a couple times a month; wonder if it would be effective?

Might try what Ranchman mentioned and start conditioning them in August next year. Would be fun to try something different.

In S Tex many only get corned starting Dec when hunters show up and it works like a charm. No conditioning required. Hogs and javis find it too with no issue. Find the same in W Tex as well.

Due to great hunting pressure, some deer become too spooked to visit a deer feeder during shooting (daylight) hours. By corning a road that deer frequently crosses, deer will stop to eat the corn since they're not spooked when visiting a road that they frequently crosses.

We only corn once during the week(usually on way home from work) and then the weekends get corned morning and night....we corn the roads on every visit throughout the year(usually 2-3 times per month) and start making 2 visits per week starting in august to corn the road/check cameras.....the deer are usually out eating corn before i get to my stand after parking the truck in the mornings; in the evenings they will usually hit the roads about hour before the feeder goes off.

i corn everytime i drive past a blind starting sept. 1st.

only hit it for 3 seconds but they hear that and remember. Kinda like an ice cream truck....you may have not eaten from it in 30 years but when you hear that jingle they play you know immediatly what it is.

I like to corn closer to the blind in most cases. I like my shots to be short, I'm not trying to win any long range contests.

the buck I shot sunday was about 50 yards. the last 3 bucks I've shot at our ranch were 50,85 and 95.

alot less room for error when the shots are closer
