They get used to tailgate feeder noise, just like a regular feeder. After a while feeding the same place, around the same times, and out of the same truck, you will see deer within a few minutes of feeding.

Mainly done on senderos in s. Texas. Brings the deer out into the open to feed.

so this isn't just dropping corn on the road? it means using a spread feeder from a truck?

Or directly out of the bag. Just have someone pouring out of the bag as you drive along slowly. Personally we use an All Seasons hitch-mount with remote control now but dumped straight from the bag for years

As mentioned above this is a south Texas tradition and it keeps the does out in the open senderos where the bucks also are attracted to the does looking for love.
I've got about a four hundred yard long sendero (road) that I corn and I use only about 2 large coffee containers to feed simply by driving with the window down and letting the corn trickle out as I drive. Once I'm in the stand I can already see deer and maybe hogs aready out in the open eating the corn.
Where I hunt you could feed 200 lbs. and the hogs, deer and turkeys will have it gone within one morning hunt.

Like mentioned above also they get used to the sound, and I just rattle the can as I dump it or just let it hit the side of the door as I drive and it calls them in.

I've found that big bucks will come out and eat the corn off the ground just like the does and smaller bucks, but will avoid a feeder almost 100% of the time.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I hunt with cattle on the property and they don't bother the corn on the ground when it's scattered.

Buy a bag of cake and cake them on the opposite side of the property before every hunt. 2-3 big coffee cans of cake spread out will keep them busy a while.

I used to do this on the ranches I managed and the deer would see
my old blue Ford coming and follow me like Cows..The does all come every time, especially if you do it on a schedule..It also
give Novice Hunters a real look and usually a much easier shot
at the animals..I like a quick clean kill...Plus you can keep track of your herd and what's happening..50 lbs of corn out a pickup window can take awhile..you don't need a spreader..and the
window is a lot more frugal..I built a spreader but it really throws corn off the senderos and roads..Don

The deer don't care if it comes from a $400 electric bumper feeder or a folgers can. You'll save money from a bumper feeder. You'll pour a ton out of a container.i do the same in north texas and the deer eat more corn hand thrown than from a feeder than in 4 cow panels. If you have roads by the stand drive them and throw corn.

i use a feeder from the truck. deer here it and they come out like fat kids chasing the ice cream truck.

we have alot of deer so i put out about 15 lbs per sit spread out over a few spots

if the wind is wrong it also allows you to still hunt the blind with success at teh corned spots

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I prefer it over using a feeder

It will pull deer out of the woods as well as just stop them if they are moving across the road.

I have used a road or tailgate feeder now for 23 yrs. I start corning roads or areas I want to see deer in starting in August and try to do it everyday I can. It spreads deer out so they are not to many in one location like a feeder. It also gives the non-aggressive deer a location to feed away from the aggressive deer. During the rut it puts does in many locations to spread their scent out for bucks when they are cruising and checking for does in heat. Best of all it allows you to hunt a stand when the wind is bad by allowing you to put deer in the places you want them.
This pic is from this afternoon. I had not been around for 3 weeks till yesterday to feed roads. I put corn out this afternoon and these deer came in within 10 minutes. Corn feeder does not go off for another 50 minutes.

These pics are from early Nov. this year on different days. The corn feeder would be about 75 yds to the right in this pic.

This buck was 5 yrs old in this pic. I had not seen him at a corn feeder since he was a 2 yr old. He would only eat corn in the road. He would be seen only 2-3 times per season total. This was the first time that year he showed up at a stand. He was killed 2 days later. Corn feeder would be 300 yrds from this deer to the left in the photo.
