born in AR, raised in TN moved to El Paso cuz of my wife a few years ago. Back home I used to hunt and fish some. My cousin just got stationed in Ft Bliss and was asking me about hunting and fishing. None of my friends and my wife's family here are into hunting & fishing at all, so I pretty much had given up on both but my cousin was asking and it renewed my interest... Anyone have any info on hunting or fishing this far out West?

The Army offers hunting on Ft. Bliss. Check into it.

Caballo Lake State Park is north of Las Cruces,NM. About 100 miles from El Paso

Oh yea...Las Cruces has a VERY nice outdoor gun range...and it's FREE

I lived there for 18 years. Go to Las Cruces to the Parks and Wildlife dept, get maps and info on hunting public lands in New Mexico. You will need out of state hunting licence also. I camped/hunted a little bit south of Ruidoso, pretty area. You will see elk, mule deer and bear. Also in the moutains there are small lakes to fish in.

I lived in Anthony, NM for years. "A little bit south" in the west means less than an hours drive. A conversion about distance goes like this:

"How far is from Las Cruces to Santa Fe?"

"Oh, about five hours."

There is great Quail hunting around Anthony Gap and the Organ Mountains. I used to trail over to Deming for Quail too. The duck hunting is not bad around Bosque de Apache.

I am missing that end of Texas alot these days. I wish I was headed home for the holidays....
