Lets just assume that wherever I hunt will have electricity. The cart will probably be used a couple of times a month during non hunting season.

Gas vs. electric
Ez Go vs. Club Car
Jakes 6" lift vs. All Sports 6" lift

I've been told that gas will have more maintenance and that the 48v electric ones are just as powerful and fast.

Club Cars have all aluminum frames so no rust issues.

I've also been told the Jakes spindle lift on the Ez Go's have been known to snap.

So these are my concerns and questions. Can someone help me out?

My buddy went the cart route and now he's going to sell it for a gasser. The batteries for his 48v have had to be replaced every 2 years to the tune of a hair over $900.00 and he's had to replace some kind of module twice. I wanted a cart until I talked to him.

Yes, ouch indeed! He loves the quitness but the batteries are the deal killer, he's even tried different brands and they all only get him 2 years.

I prefer electric. Less maintenance. Quiet.

Don't get a spindle lift, period. Doesn't matter who makes it, they tend to have problems. Get a replacement front axle type lift.

You don't need a 6" lift. 4" is plenty. I'd prefer a 4" with heavy duty springs over the 6" with stock springs.

Club Car has an aluminum frame with lots of steel bolted to it, so yes, there are still rust issues.

These things are fairly primitive technologically speaking. They're not much more than an ox cart with an elec. motor and batteries. Anyone can work on them if your willing to get your hands dirty.

Here's mine. Did all the work myself. 4" Jake's lift, HD springs (rear are for a ez-go utility truck), new batt's, cables, wheels/tires (Buggies Unlimited), new batt rack, new seat. You'll need to adjust the brakes after lifting.

Mine too. Wish I could still afford my little slice of heaven down at Pioneer RV in Port Aransas. We used to keep the trailer there from May to Oct. Spent every weekend there and several weeks through the season. Catchin' fish all day, every day. Even caught a buzz or two as well. Then they got greedy and jacked up the site rental to $500/month.

6 or 7. Just be sure to tender the batteries regularly. Top off the charge after every use. Use a good battery charger that stops charging once the batteries are fully charged. Don't let the batteries go long periods without charging.

As for the pic; One of the side benefits is that the women run around in bikinis all day and night. Best way I found to keep the wife nearly naked. There's always plenty of scenery too.

Here's a pic of my critter getter. 48V Club Car Precedent, started off as stock. I wanted/needed electric for the stealth. I have more to do to it still, gonna upgrade electrical system/install running & hunting lights/receiver hitch etc. If you take care of your batteries they will last you a lot longer. Like Pirate said, make sure you use an auto shut-off charger. Keep all terminals clean & keep the liquid in the batteries full. So far, I'm getting somewhere between 15 & 20 miles on a charge & that's including dragging big boar hogs out of plowed fields. I went with a 6" lift & it's starting to get a little squeaky in the front. That's a problem especially when I'm stalking pigs on a calm quiet night. I'm gonna try & lube it up, hope that works.

I think you'd be fine in Texas with an electric buggy, but not if you have serious mud issues where you hunt. Electric carts don't spin the wheels fast enough to sling that heavy sticky mud off the tires. And, I recently found that the buggy I drove had very little variable speed. Bottom line is that electric buggies in heavy mud drain batteries really fast. My cousin parks the Bad Boy when it gets real muddy and goes to more of a mud-capable machine.

Roger that, they have their limitations. I hunt primarily on flat land with a few hills. Mud gets pretty nasty sometimes but I try to go around the bad spots. I've gotta say though that I've been pretty impressed so far with what it will go through. I did over heat the motor a few times (that's why I mounted a fire extinguisher) though in a plowed muddy field, was just too much for it. Will be better after I do the upgrade. Sometimes though, you just can't beat a 4 wheeler. grin

I want one, would love the quiet. Our place is all sand, the more it rains the more drivable it is, nearly the only time you need 4x4 is when its dry as a popcorn fart.

If the bateries last 6-7 years like yal say I'll be happy.

LOL, well if you decide to get one I would recommend the 48v not the 36. Most of the new ones coming out now are 72 volt! I just didn't wanna pull the trigger on a new one. I've been happy with it so far.

Yeah if the batteries are getting even 4-5 years I'll go that route. I wonder why my buddy has had to replace his so many times? He's one of those maintainence freaks with everything, maybe a bad charger?

You can't just replace one battery here and there. You pretty much have to replace them all. Especially if they're getting where they won't take or hold a full charge. If you replace one it will only take as much charge as the rest.

The other issue is that you have to make sure that all connections and wires are secure. Get a loose one and it'll burn the terminal quickly.

One thing I really do like about the electric buggies is that they are SO quiet. That's a real big positive. My Kubota RTV900 sounds like the Union Pacific train rolling through town, though it does appear that the deer and hogs are used to the sound.

as others have stated, if your buddy is only getting 2 years, he's got some issues. I love my low rider, it aint pretty, but gets me there and back

One of the worse things you can do to these batteries is to run them all the way down until they are totally dead. That dramatically increases the sulfurization (sp?) between the plates within the battery, causing an early death. Best way to extend their life is to not pull more than 50% of total available charge on a regular basis, keep'm watered to correct level using distilled water ONLY, and don't overcharge. I use 8 each 6 volt golf cart batteries in the house bank of my trawler's 12 volt system and get at least 4 years out of them with very heavy use while cruising for several months a year.

So I've decided on electric.

It's my understanding that all the Ez Go's are 36 volt. I drove a 48 volt
Lifted Club car precedent this weekend and it was fast.

So does anyone have an opinion as to Ez go vs club car?

I know the club car will cost more but they're so much nicer and seem to be built better and apparently nothing rusts on them.

Club Cars do have steel on them and the steel will rusts. They have an alum. frame with steel components bolted to it.
