While I value a heated box stand as much as anyone, there are times when duty calls and you find yourself in a tree stand braving the elements.

That being said, what is the coldest and worst weather that you have ever braved while hunting?

For me, it would have to be an 18-degree morning in East Texas. And while I can clearly remember that very cold morning, I cannot for the life of me remember if I even saw, much less took a deer that day.

-10, 30-40mph steady wind with gusts & blowing/drifting snow hitting you in the face. You didn't have any exposed skin that morning. Gunnison, Colorado

11 degrees, 18 inches of snow on the ground, spot and stalk hunting for mule deer on the South Plains.

Cold that morning, but wind turned out of the south and warmed to 60 that afternoon. Hunted all day and drove out through what was basically a giant red bowl of soup. Used almost a full tank of gas to go about 7 miles and it took 4 hours.

Definite day of "if you don't like the weather in Texas, just wait an hour".

Coldest I've ever felt was duck hunting in water that literally started to freeze around me. If I'd have hunted another couple of hours I probably could have laid my gun on the ice.

Be sure to include where you were hunting so those like me can make it a point to avoid such God-forsaken places.

9 degrees in a tree stand in Kansas. Wouldn't have made it if the wind had been blowing like it usually does up there, but it was pretty damn cold. Didn't kill anything, but it was a good hunt.

Christmas Eve morning in early 80's it was 9 degrees with wind in South Texas. Then again in 1989 on a Saturday morning in Dec it was 10 and the next Saturday it was 0 in Kendall County. No heaters but lots of clothes. Hunted several mornings in Stonewall and Kent county of temps around 9-15 degrees from the ground walking and glassing.

Oh how I know how that goes!!!!

I went one time it was -2 with wind chill... for some reason I decided to go horse back so I wouldn't get the truck stuck in a snow drift.....it was 20 when I left ...-2 when I got back

I hunted in Alberta in 2006 and it never got above freezing. Opening morning it was 0 with windchill way below. But we spent most time glassing from the truck during the 3 day hunt.

Spent almost a whole night riding around in the bed of a pickup and on a 4 wheeler varmit hunting at a budies ranch in north texas a few years ago. It was 15 degrees and sleeting/raining/snowing all night.

For my effort I was rewarded with 3 racoons that I shot with no less than a 7mm wby mag and 160 grain partitons almost brought a tear to my eye and made my wallet shiver every time I pulled the trigger!

Hunting: Low of 9 degrees with a high 24. Hunted all day.

Back when I was assigned to motorcycles I had to ride about 25 miles to work a collision at 6:00 AM. It was 15 degrees and I was riding 60-65 miles per hour. I was wearing knee high leather boots a leather jacket and a polyester uniform. Yes, I nearly froze to death.

Wyoming pack in elk hunt in the mid seventies. Mornings when we left out horseback it was anywhere from 0 to 15 below every morning. We would ride anywhere from two to three hours before we got to where we hunted. By then I was numb from the cold. Luckily I killed a bull the second morning and got to hang around the camp and bs with the cooks and fish most of the other 5 days we were there. Funny thing is we all had on so much clothing we had to help each other get on a horse and the dang guides had on cowboy boots and blue-jean jackets. eek2
