so been trying to catch this group of hogs at my place here in Cuero, and no luck for three days. they keep tearing up my land and i keep trying to trap them with no luck. i have trapped hogs before and did good. but this group is SMART! i have a closed in trap(10x4x4) baited with stawberry jello soured corn and Hog Wild on top. they keep rooting up within 100 feet of it but will not go in. i have been looking at the wallows and most pigs are in the 60-100 lb. range. and a couple are in the 150-200 lb. range and one has 3" hoofs. and I expect him to be around 300 lbs. He must be the smart one that is keeping the group away from my trap.

Does anyone have any tips that can help me catch these hogs! Thanks in advance.

Set up a bait pile and hunt at night with a spot light!

Might do better if you keep the foul language off the forum...

With an attitude like that...hmmm, you can catch more bees with honey than with vinegar! Good luck

After hunting & killing alot of hogs, I have noticed that they may have big feet but wernt nearly as heavy as thought. Especially if the ground where the track it was wet or softer then you think.

Just keep baiting or set up at night to ambush them. Might set up on a trail they are using to come in to that area & open fire. If there is something about the trap/area they dont like they wont frequent it as much but they ALSO let their stomachs over-ride their brain too.

Is your trap out in the open?On a well used trail or next to a feeder?

If it's out in the open move it close but not on a well used trail. If its on a feeder turn the feeder off and make the only food avalible whats in the trap.If the trap is not brushed try that to hide it a little. One trick I learned from TCH is to shovel some dirt on the floor of the trap.Helps trap smart hogs feel more at ease.Try diffrent things till you find what they want.Trap smart hogs can drive ya crazy but keep after them hogs!

A good dose of lead poison should do the trick!

Only bait inside the trap no where else.Wire the door open till you see activity inside the trap and set it.They will start to go in when they get hungry enough.

I had a problem with trap smart hogs on the ranch I work on. I took post hole diggers and dug about 2 foot deep I filled the hole with a mixture of bait I like (use whatever works for you). Leave the bait site alone untill you see good activity around it then put your trap over the bait site. One the first night with the trap set I caught a 200#er and within a week caught 15 of all diff sizes.

And MaggieMTx hit the nail on the head about the tracks. If the ground is wet the hogs hoof will spead when it steps and the track will seem larger than it actually is.

Good Luck.
