While hunting the coast this weekend my friend shot this mallard hybrid and i was wondering what it is crossed with. I was thinking pintail at first but no sprig and looks defferent from pics i've seen of mallard x pintails before. Then i was thinking maybe mallard x widgeon because of the brown on its chest. Cant figure it out though.

i have seen old marina mallards have the blue bill before. Interesting bird you got though. I dont think its 100% mallard. Id say his mother is a whore.

Any more pics? A wing pic could be helpful.

That would probably depend on the game warden, I was wondering about that yesterday

+1 hybrids fall into the "all other ducks" category.

Mallard/Widgeon is my best guess. I've seen several Mallard/Pintail and that doesn't resemble one very closely.

I was thinking blue bill also cause the way his head had the green/purple sade to it when the sun hit it in different ways. Also he had the same white/black peppery feathers on its back like a blue bill but his chest had widgeon written all over it.

I agree he didnt have a sprig at all either which I have found even pinky nail long sprigs on a very young pintail drake. Also his butt was not black like a pintail but the same color as his head.

his feet were yellow with a orange tent with a kinda dark webbing. Unfortunately this is the only pic of the bird and he is on his way to the taxidermy today.
