How did you figure he had a heart attack? I would also like to know how you came up with this diagnosis, doctor.

Ok let's get this straight right now...I just saw this post thanks to a friend and want to clear this up. First off I am the owner of the land where this deer was FOUND. Located 20 miles north of meridian on 174. Second I have been watching this deer for 7 years and I WOULD HAVE BEEN THE ONLY ONE to hunt him. No one GUT SHOT or even tried to hunt him. He was ran down by mountain lions and his heart ruptured. The individual that found him is my best friend and he to thought it was yotes UNTIL you look at the rib cage pic and notice the claw marks through the bones...yotes and bobcats aren't strong/big enough to so that. It did throw me when I didn't see anything on the neck but after talking to some experts that's what they do when they are training their young. They run the prey dwn and since this one died of a heart attack there was no need to crush the wind pipe. 2 days before he was found a lion was sight 2 miles from the ranch. And I have personally seen tracks along my creek. This deer on the hoof weighed aprx. 180 pounds so there's no way anything but a BIG CAT could have done this. Also when this deer was found the blood was still wet. It was a fresh kill. It is a real shame that I couldn't have killed him but he was a old smart buck. He was 27.5 inside with 12" 2's. 2 years ago was his best yr. having 20 score able points with a 10" drop. I found both sheds laying 2' from each other. So to the guy that does not think its real...it dam sure is. yeah you're right, there is no way coyotes could take down a big mature buck "Mature mule deer (O. hemionus) are often pulled down from behind, but some carcasses show bites or bruises in the neck." http://agrilife.org/texnatwildlife/coyot...yote-predation/ I heard this was a high fence ranch so that takes out the chance of him getting hit by a car or the neighbors shooting him.
I'm going with coyotes, killed and ate him. Is this true? Is the ranch high fence? Because if not, the chances are much higher for being hit by an automobile at night than killed by predation. Especially a mature adult deer. Of course, there are about 5 times as many deer taken a year in Texas by hunters than there are vehicle collisions. This is during the daylight hours of course; but at night those statistics reverse. The predation mortality percentages on adult deer in Texas are negligible compared to hunter and roadway mortality. However, if there's a Chupacabra loose in the area, all bets are off that sucker killed him shore! it is not a high fence ranch.. its a few miles down the road from my good friends fathers ranch... this site and forum has lost a ton of respect in my book. http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbt...his#Post8284046

Booner...if I knew how to post the pic of the heart I could show u very easily ESP when u have a good heart next to it. But the heart looked like it had 2 big clots one going vertical and one at the base of the heart. When he sent me a pic of it I examined it compared to the heart of a deer my military hunt hunter had just shot and there were those 2 significant differences. And second case the legs/feet looked extremely swollen like when someone has a massive heart attack their extermeties swell. I don't know DXB THAT ORGINALLY posted, however I do know the guy in the pic. Ask DXB why the face was chopped. And to answer your question he wasn't HUNTING that deer. He is trying to shoot a 8 point. I'm telling everyone right now he wasn't hit by a car. This deer is 1.5 miles from the highway.

Or he could have just died from his heart troubles. Who knows but it was a damn good buck. Wish you could have got him while hunting.

ok you ask us our opinion then get defensive. hmmm seems to me that this would have gone over better if it read something like this. Was out "Bow Hunting" spotted this deer at about 100 yards out but never came in for a shot. The next day when leaving i spotted this deers rack out in the grass and found him all ate up with claw marks so on and so on. what do yall think ate him? we are thinking it was a mountain lion. i would dare say that there wouldnt have been any aqusations made or atleast not so many.

I was referring to the ones adam p posted with the coyote and the buck. There is a whole slideshow that shows a three hour ordeal where these two coyotes are caught on trail cam harassing and eventually taking an injured deer.
Regardless, predation mortality rates are minute compared to auto collisions and hunter harvest.
Too much misinformation is tossed around on this forum.

Lol. Duckbill that was funny! The dude up top has already taken lots of bone before this deer, both mule and whitetail.

Too much misinformation is tossed around on this forum. I've seen every picture of that slideshow, there is nothing that shows that the deer was injured before the coyotes got it. If you would also read what I posted, and click the link, there is an article stating that coyotes take down mature mule deer. Y'all that think a couple coyotes can't take down a mature buck need to stop kidding your selves.

I said that many more deer are killed by automobiles and hunters than by predation in Texas and that is a simple fact! I'm a wildlife biologist I think I may know a thing or two about deer.

27.5" wide inside. The hits just keep coming Jealous? Doubt he is jealous. But if the G2's are 12 then yea it may have a 27.5 spread. I just dont see 12" g2's either. Maybe just bad pics. Pics some times dont tell the truth. But the truth on this one is in doubt for sure.

It was a kill by rifle, what's going on with his one eye? Back in WV father-in-law is a game warden. Not that odd to find a deer shot in the eye by spot lighting poachers, think about what you can see at night when deer hit headlights. That is why I ask about the eye. Poached and eaten by yotes. If it was killed by yotes or a big cat it would have wounds on the neck and shoulders. Cat is going to eat shoulder down from what I have seen when I was stationed in Colorado and we found Mountain Lion left overs. Yotes will eat from whatever they get to first, soft spot at throat and belly.
