Went to the local pawn shop looking for a 22 mag or 22 LR for me and my daughter to shoot.
I found a perfect little Henry 22 LR with a Bushnell scope on it priced for $299.
I saw on cabelas these sell new (without scope) for $259. Would you offer them $200 for it? Take it if they counter for $250? What is the price you would take it?
I have wanted a lever gun for some time now, but would we be better off with a Marlin 60 or a 10/22?

The scope isn't worth anything more than likely so yeah, i'd offer $200.

if the pawn shop isn't willing to take some where betweem 200 amd maybe as high as 225, 230 for a used gun
ride over to the cabelas and score the new one for 259$
as stated above the scope is worth little if any
new is always better

I bought a 10/22 only about 6 months back for 125 off Texas gun trader. It came with two 30 round mags, an extra tactical stock (since it came in a walnut originaly) and a cheapo bushnell.
Shoots okay but since i didn't like the scope i'm having to use iron sights right now till i can afford a decent scope.
Personally i would offer them $175-$200.

Henry has a limited Lifetime warranty but my guess is one of the limitations is original ownership. What is a warranty worth to you?

Nope, they did not bite. He said the lowest he would go is $275. It was a cheap little fixed power Bushnell scope so that did not factor in at all for me.

Typical pawn shop - They probably had $100 or less in it! The last 2 gunshows I went to had BRAND NEW ruger 10/22's for $200ea; and I dont think you could go wrong with a 10/22.

check the date on the ticket ,it should tell you how long they have had it. the longer they have it, the cheaper they will go.

pawn shops loan 1/3 the book value of the firearm.
They paid 1/3 the asking price. Killeen TX, it's suppose to be the pawn capital of Texas. My ex wife pawned a Glock 26 for $100bucks.
$200 is a clean 100 buck profit. For doing nothing but sitting on a shelf. It walked in the door, it evens walks out the door.
But if 50 people a week come in looking for the same thing. It draws a certain price they won't budge on. Till the market falls off and folks move to different things.
I vote hitting him with $175. Ask him to explain why it's not a good price. If he declines. If he does, work up by $20's. Slowly....
He loves money just like we all do. He ain't stupid. Pawns are haggle ground zero.
Remember this, he wants your money. As much as he can. He also knows there's a pawn everywhere. He also wants to keep your business. Somewhere in between that. Is your price. Make sure to tell him, eye to eye, your a repeat customer for the right deal.

Sorry Im going to have to dissagree with that...pawn shop owners seem to have the attitude of "If you dont like it pack your S*&% and leave!" OR "Sooner or later an idiot will walk in here and pay me over retail for this!" The last time I tried to buy a gun at a pawn shop it was a Benelli SBE II(new in box) and I was standing there with $100 bills cash in hand willing to buy one if he would match cabelas advertised price....which was $50 cheaper and he wouldnt budge. I had to later pick up my STOLEN Browning sweet sixteen from this same pawn shop after having to take him to court to get it back...He bought it from the theif for $100, the judge made the detective go with me to the pawn shop to pick up the gun because the guy went CRAZY in the courtroom when I told him that if he paid $100 for a Belgium Sweet Sixteen he KNEW it was stolen and was trying to make 1,000% profit. And that glock your ex pawned for $100....I bet they didnt sell it for $200 or even $400; it amazes me how they will try and sell gen 1 & 2 Glocks for new retail.

Dewd, find another pawn shop or avoid that hack. Ive been to pawns from Waco, Killeen, Cop cove, Gatesville, most of bell Co. The guy behind the counter is usally pretty nice. You found the DA in a crowd. Thats on you.

I have had 10/22's and have a 10/22 Mag and a Marlin Lever 22 all will or would shoot really well..I don't think I'd take a Henry for a Marlin if you want a lever gun, unless you are just wanting it for looks and playing..my buddy had several and none would shoot w/my Marlin or my Rugers..Don

They are either idiots, or someone made a bad loan and they are buried in it. I worked in a pawn shop long enough to know. This time of year, they really try to move merchandise. Whatever is left Jan 1 they pay inventory tax on.

If I found the DA in the crowd...then it must have been catching on, one of the other pawn shops wouldnt give me my stolen 700 Sendero stainless in 300wby back either unless I paid them the $400 they paid for it; and that was with me standing there holding the Bill of sale from where I bought it along with a letter from the gunshop where I bought it and the police report listing it as stolen property, after the detective called and told them it was stolen and put a hold on it.
Went to a Pawn shop here in Austin 2 weeks ago and looked at a Winchester 30-30 that the guy said was
"made in 1962...its a steal at $550"
It was not a pre-64 and I confirmed that buy looking up the serial number on my phone and showed him that several parts (but plate, screws, ect were not factory and had been replaced)......"OK I'll do $525" and thats with the inventory tag saying it had been there since Oct 2010
I still look in pawn shops every now and then, but continue to be dissapointed, and its not just guns they seem to want retail plus for every busted up Dewalt drill sitting on the self.
